Default No dash Sunday

I dug these two out...
I went pretty deep into the gang box this morning looking for a -3, 5” gun for another thread.
Grabbed a quick photo and said, why not
So let’s see your no dash guns
Hope you like the pics and more importantly enjoy your day off

OK...........I'll play........

Model 36 no dash, shipped January 1967 per Roy Jinks. Very, very clean, pristine gun, box, docs, vapor paper. Possibly unfired, estate sale, came to me after years of looking for a nice one to replace my first EDC which was the exact same Model 36, bought in West Nyack, New York in 1971. I had just received my first Carry Concealed permit which in those days had to be issued and signed by a Federal Judge, and was issued with two (2) "Purchase Permits" allowing you to buy 2 handguns. Left New York in 1974 and still have the second purchase permit with the old permit.

Still recall that there was no 2A movement in those days, no "shall issue" rulings, and supposedly the NY Permits were issued "for life" as long as you didn't get convicted of some offense. In the 1980's I lived in New Jersey, and when I got my Jersey permit, I was told that the New York regs had changed and I was supposed to call NY State Police and surrender the old NY permit.

I guess the anti-gunners were in early stages of ramping up.

Enough ramble.......enjoy the pics of my no dash Model 36.

Some great no dashes posted already.

Great idea for a thread Ironworker. I have a couple to add, 629s of course.

I'd better not forget this model 60.

I have a few; however, not all technically fit within the time frame of this sub-forum. That said, I' post them anyway. In no particular order.

My favorite gun. My 1964 6.5" M27.

On top my 1980 M520 and my 1978 M58.

And my 6" 1983 M686.

I sold three no-dash guns this year. A 1961 6" M27, 1959 8 3/8" M27 and a beautiful 1980(?) 6" M57.

No dash guns? I have a pile.....how about a pair of 686's? They are CS-1's 686 no-dash. One 4 inch, one 3", both in original configuration.

Interesting. I always thought the CS-1s were all 3". At least, those were the only ones I've heard of.

Off the top of my head my 60, 686, 342PD, 329PD are the only examples I can think of early on a Sunday morning.

Typically during the 686's in the Customs Service the 3" were carried by agents in plain clothes whereas the 4" ones were carried by the guys in uniforms.

Only three "No Dashes" in my stable.

The Model 60 and the Model 58 were duty guns and fired throughout my career. I have no idea how many rounds went through them, but they are still tight and functional and take pride of place in the vault. The Model 10 is unfired as far as I can tell and is a very early example of the snub nose version of the model 10 as it still has the very thin (skinny) sights.

Here are mine. Clockwise from the top left: M66, M67, M651, & M63. The 66 & 67 have the stainless sights. The model 41 letters to September 1959.

I have other no dash guns but there was never a dash 1 for them so they don’t count, do they?

Two of my Chiefs fit this era.

A 1981 engraved Model 36, and a 1984 Model 60 square butt.

Not trying to hijack a thread here, but I do remember the magazine. I have not bought a mag in 30 years. The great writers IMO are gone, and I am still waiting to see an honest review say that something tested is a piece of junk.

Nice thread. Have to admire the way a nice Model 25 prints.

Default Lots of nice pics so far.....

In the first pic is a mdl 681 no dash, 4" bbl. It has the smoothest and most consistently smooth trigger pull of the Smith revolvers I have. Both single and double action. It now wears magna service stocks for a more period correct look.
In the second pic the top gun is a mdl 66 no dash, 6 in bbl.
The 2nd gun pictured in the second pic is a mdl 66 no dash, 4 in bbl.
The other guns shown in the second pic are a 66-2 and a 66-1, you can ignore them.
Thanks to everyone who's participating.

I've posted all of these before, but not as a group. My 60, with oversize presentations, my 36 with Altamont Rosewoods, my 38 all stock, and I guess these count - my pre 10 M&P, now with Texas targets, and my 6906 including a 59 mag and adapter.

I've posted these before but this a Model 67 on which I had the finish restored from being polished. I have a set of the correct Magna stocks but it looks better in checkered Targets.

Don’t worry about that
I think most of the new magazines suck

I used to have this no dash 686 but I foolishly traded it towards a Dan Wesson 715. (I kept the stocks which were not original to the gun)

Pretty sure this is my only no dash and I am very fond of it. Bought it local a few years ago with box and dox.

Lots of great stuff in this thread. Sorry I don't have more to contribute!

My previous post is a 4" 586. Don't know why I didn't say so. Figured y'all would know without my say so but here's my say so anyway.

I've seen the opposite locally a few years ago. 6" Non-pinned but recessed marked 629 in the wood clamshell box. Seems to be little consistency in the transition time frame.

For sure

We had a pretty good thread going a few years ago, Doc44 chimed in with some serial numbers and dates on the early 629’s

I realize that it is not Sunday any more, but here are my late submissions: (just like my homework was in school)
Model 67 no dash from 1973
Model 28 no dash from 1960
Model 586 no dash from 1983, no M stamp
I do have correct stocks for the 586. No boxes for them.
My photography leaves something to be desired! Bob
