Default S&W Mod 63 .22 cal. Opinions positive or neg?

Walked in to a local gun store looking for a .22 revolver. Was shown a picture of a mod 63 and it was love at first sight. Had to order it and will arrive next week.

Hope the action is as smooth as my mod 13 .357.
Think I'd prefer an older blued with wood grips but I'm getting too old for a long search.

Interested in your thoughts of the 63 as well as holster ideas (LH)
Thanks.
Dave

I own a 4” S&W 63 that I purchased damaged and had repaired by the factory. I preferred it to a pre 18 so much that I sold the latter gun to a forum member.

The trigger will most likely be smooth but noticeably heavier than you model 13. It’s just kind of the nature of the beast with a reliable rimfire.

I've had a 63 for a long time along with a 17 and an 18. I wouldn't part with the 63, but. like all J-frame revolvers, the smaller size and lighter weight makes it generally more difficult to shoot well in comparison with the K-frame guns.

A J-frame, the 63 in this case, is probably as accurate as the larger guns but is more unforgiving of a shooter's lack of skill.

The holster I use for my S&W 63 is a Bob Allen nylon model.

Love my 63 and 34. About any J Frame holster will work with it if proper barrel length. Look on ebay under J Frame holsters there will be lots to look over.

I have a 4” 63 no dash and love it.
I have owned at least 6 K frame 22’s. I now own none.
I am a bit obsessed with frame size being appropriate for cartridges. The 38 & 357 N frames are not on my favorite list for this reason.
I shoot my 63 double action occasionally but most of the time it is SA. I would never expect a J rame to be as smooth as a K frame, especially a rimfire J frame.

Positive. This no dash is from '82, and it's a fun little shooter.

Don’t let your wife or daughter shoot it! They may stake a claim on it! Mine did.
I have a 63 ND and and a newer 5” 8 shot(don’t know the dash off hand, maybe a 5?). Only problems I have is the chambers are tight giving me sticky extraction. I am going to ream them.

I have both a six-shot pinned 34 and a newer eight shot.

About the best .22 revolvers for beginners ever made.

I agree with ACORN. Wives and daughters will steal these guns.

After owning dozens of Kit Guns over the years, this is the absolute truth.

The older ones with the 1/10" front sight blade seem more precise on small targets, but they require a lot more concentration to shoot accurately. I guess the only one I shot really well was the Model 35.
