S&W M13 - Question - Australian Police Department
Hi Everyone
I recently got a copy of the "Guns & Ammo Handguns" Magazine June/July 2020 edition. There was/is an article written by Payton Miller called "Prime Number: Smith & Wesson's Model 13 was a Combat Classic Back in the Day".
Within the article, Miller receives information from Massad Ayoob about a limited run of Model 13's with Square Butts, that was supposedly for an Australian Police Department.
Does anyone have any further information as to which Police Department this may be? (We only have State Police and Federal Police here in Australia).
Many thanks

My guess is a mix up in the story being told...
Model 10-7, 3" Square Butt were made for the Australian Police

I think the cops on, Blue Heelers wore those. Saw detectives with M-36' s.
The show was set in Victoria, but I've seen pics of those .38's with NSW property marks.
I've read that some three-inch barreled M36's were issued by Queensland, and some Rugers.
I think .40 S&W autos are now most common. One sees them on the real cop shows there, mainly in NSW and Q'land. But I think I saw an episode in the Northern Territories. Check Y0uTube.
BTW, I.m the only American I know who can name all of your states.

I obtained 5 or 6 revolvers 2 years ago from an armourer. He supplied guns for movies and tv props. They were M&P and victory revolvers. All had cut barrels to 3" added ramp sights and other mods to make them look like detective guns. Then painted a darker black. Sometimes what we see in tv is not what it appears..

3" Square Butt Model 10's where the issued guns when I went through the New South Wales Police Academy. I believe Victoria also had Model 10's. Queensland and Northern Territory had Rugers while South Australia had Model 66's.
