A revolver I just plain like
Nothing special. Most guys wouldn’t look at it twice. I picked it up from a local shop. Mechanically fine but had some deep scratches in the top-strap. I took either 150 or 120 sandpaper and worked it across until the scratches were gone and then did the entire top-strap too even it out. I added some nicer stocks. Just a plain ol’ 4” HB 64 but I really like it.

I think they are great guns, along with the blued counterpart Model 10. I kind of like fixed sight guns. Why I got rid of my M65-1 is just beyond me. Same gun, but 357

It's special to you, and that's what counts.
64s are nice revolvers. Had a 2" 64, wish I still had it. Enjoy yours.

That revolver is the marriage of form and function.

They're all great guns, but I'm particularly fond of the 2" tapered barrel; as shown on my Model 64-2.

I replaced the factory grooved trigger with a smooth one. It just improves on an already great gun.
Never fear though, the original grooved trigger now resides in the factory box, just in case some future owner wants to change it back.

My 64 is a tack driver, most accurate revolver I have ever shot, fixed sights or not.

Great gun. Can’t hurt it. I’ve shot thousands of rounds through 4 inch K frame .38 specials. One of my go-to range guns right now is a 13-3 with a 4 inch barrel. I shoot 38’s through it any time I can. Enjoy that 64.

That is a great find. I wish I had one. I love those HB Model 64's and HB Model 10's. A HB Model 10 was my first issued duty weapon when I started out as a rookie cop in 1980.

Over the last 40 years I amassed an extensive collection of handguns. Most of them fairly expensive and scarce guns. HKs, Colts, S&Ws ect. I sold off the majority of them 5 years ago and financed a nice retirement townhome. Better return off my investment than the market.
But I kept one revolver that was a plain vanilla K38. The dealer that helped me liquidate the colection thought it would bring very little. In fact, I paid very little for it. Less than $300 IIRC. And the gun reminded me that you don't always get what you pay for. Sometimes, rarely, you get far more.
The revolver I am referring to is a DAO heavy barrel 64-5. My gunsmith at the time had called me and told me he had purchased a lot of Security company trade ins. Same guns that J&G was selling online at the time . Same configuration as the NY-1 64s.
The trigger on the example he saved for me, exceeded that of the many Performamce Center revolvers I have/had. Buttery smooth with a crisp let off. And the gun would put 6 rounds of cheap 130 grain WWB 38 into a sub 2 inch group, free hand, at 25 yards. It was so accurate and easy to shoot that after using it in competition for a few years it became the gun I used to teach new shooters.
One of the finest handguns I ever purchased. And one of the last I will let go. And maybe the least amount I ever spent on a handgun, that I can recall. But the best purchase of a gun that I ever made. Enjoy yours. Regards 18DAI

A dealer was selling 2” 64s a year or so ago for $399 at the local shows.
I’m still kicking myself of not picking one up. Nice gun.

My son has a 64 3" HB, I'm pretty sure it's a police crime scene gun that the department sold to the shop. Shoots great, timing is perfect.
He has a Model 13 3" with S&W combats that is a real looker.
Hard to argue against that platform...

M64s are wonderful - you have a winner there.
I let my M64 go to a very close friend because he rides the range on horseback to wrangle his cattle. Also gave him a nice holster that it fit in perfectly. Fabulous revolver.
But let's switch gears a second. A semi-thread switch since we'll stick to M64s and the OP's gun. This was my other M64 before and after it was customized:
Can someone tell me anything about those stocks? The OP's gun has similar stocks but they have a S&W medallion. Do you think my M64's stocks were once original to the M64 from S&W? I really like them and have long wondered about them.

Hey ACORN...IMHO in a world dominated by mass produced polymer semi-autos...ANY wheelgun is special.

I can’t speak for yours but mine came from Jaruwan P in Thailand.

Congratulations on your Model 64! I have two 64's. One is a 2" 64-2, the other is a 3" 64-3. Both are great shooters. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I do mine!

Those factory DAO guns have some of the best actions. I've owned a few over the years and really regret selling them. Sold a matching pair of them to Stephen A. Camp many years ago.
