Default S&W Model 686 + 3-5-7 Grip round or square butt?

I did it! Today I purchased the Model 686 Plus Deluxe 3-5-7.
I'm not real fond of the grips and want to replace them with Hogue grips. Does this gun have a round or square butt? I'm not exactly sure what I'm looking for to tell. Thanks all.

You will need to take off the grips and see which one they match up with. Just go to the Hogue website and open the S&W grips section, revolvers, then your frame size.

Have the exact same gun. Try a pair of round to square grips. You will like them.

It may be the type of stocks or the unfluted cylinder, or both.

The 3-5-7 are, or very close, to a round to square but conversion. I think that is the reason I didn’t care for them.

I think the wood grips give it the deluxe name. I see fluted cylinders with the deluxe name but they have wooden grips.

These could be an option for you. They look good, and feel great to me. They do fit very tight. Hogue round to square conversion.

Thanks everyone for the replies. I ordered some Hogue rubber grips from Brownells last night and I plan to order a nice set of wood grips later on. I plan to go to the range in the morning and shoot this little jewel for the first time. Again, thanks for all of the helpful replies. I have owned many S&W revolvers over the years, and this makes my fourth current one.

I have a 3-5-7 with a 7" barrel. Did not care for the factory grips and bought some Ahrend target grips for them.

In my neck of the woods Deluxe means lettuce, tomato, and a side of fries

Enjoy, nice wheelgun.

My 686+ T.A.L.O. 3-5-7 3" is Round butted. Did not like the grips and put Pachmayr Diamond Pro on it.

Sweet gun. Very accurate and a joy to shoot.

Carried frequently AIWB>

I changed my 3-5-7 grips out to Altamont Falconias. The top of the stock grips stuck out from the back strap slightly. The two little points were enough to bite the web of my hand when shooting .357s. Very poor design. The Falconias are super comfortable and absorb recoil well.

I have a 3" 3-5-7 Talo just like yours!
It truly is a beautiful piece!
I had a local gunsmith do an action job on it and it's as smooth as butter! 🧈

I believe the 7" model 686 3-5-7 will be my next one. All my S&W revolvers have been wood grips. I have changed them out and put Hogue Cocobolo wood grips on all of except the Model 60 Pro Series. The Model 60 Pro Series has Macassar Ebony custom one off grips from Badger Grips.

I hate the factory grips on those. They look cool, but point and handle like trash.
