Default 29-4 3" Info

I just acquired a 29-4, 3" Barrel, Unfluted Cylinder, Serial Number BDY8863, Product Code 101251, Special Order 9187,

All of this information is on the end of the box. Beautiful Gun.

I have been told this may be a Lew Horton Model. Any information on this revolver would be greatly appreciated.

2532 pieces of product code 101251 were manufactured starting in 1989

According to the "SPEC ORD" number your particular revolver was manufactured on July 6th of 1989

I do not recall this being a Lew Horton Exclusive offering, but I do not always pay close attention to the 44 Magnums so I could be wrong

I always thought these were nice looking snubbies

I obviously took the rubber grips off the gun since I have a preference for the older wood Combat Grips

I saw somewhere on the internet that the code 101251 was a Special Run for RSR with 2500 made in 1989. Does anyone have any info to verify that? Thanks

That’s also my understanding. I’ve see 2 in the past 8-9 months. The last one was about $1,000 sans box, but had the original Pach grips. I passed, didn’t need/want another 3” 44.

I found one on GunBroker Ultra Rare S&W Model 29 .44 Magnum Unfluted Original Box Collector $.01 NR - Revolvers at GunBroker.com : 874118286

This one sold for $1995 and is identical to mine.

No

These Model 29s shipped with the Pachmayr Gripper

That grip pictured is a Pachmayr Compac Professional for the K-frame

This gun doesn't appear to have the longer bolt notches in the cylinder that was a part of the performance update.

What gun are you referring to?

The original poster has not provided a picture of his 29-4. That is my Model 29 pictured or are you talking about the one that sold for $1995 at auction?

However, while the -4 engineering revision did contain much of what became known as the Endurance Package (actually starting at -3E) the elongated stop notches were not introduced into the Model 29 until the -4E. Very few Model 29s were marked -4E and the "Official" change to the elongated stop notches occurred at the -5 engineering revision
