Default New 500 Magnum finish question

Picked her up yesterday from my FFL. Having seen and handled several in stores, I knew what to expect from the finish quality, or lack of I should say so this one was no surprise. Looks like S&W hired Ray Charles to do the final finish on some of these. Frame finish is good, but I'd like to even out the barrel's appearance, see pic. Both sides look the same and it's mainly at the muzzle end. What method do you guys recommend, polish only, scotch brite then polish? Any particular brand of polish that works best?

As for the fit of the revolver, it's fantastic. B/C gap is .007" with only .002" movement, all throats mic'd between .501" and .5015", and the barrel mic'd at .4996". The trigger is what all revo triggers should be . Very smooth 10.5# DA, 3# SA with an amazingly crisp break. Heading out to the shop this morning to cast some 440's for it. Already have some 350gn XTPs loaded with CFE-BLK and H110 and can't wait to hit the range.

I'd recommend leaving it the way it is. That muzzle break will change colors a little bit when you shoot it anyway.

I really don't think you have much grounds for complaints. From the picture you show, looks like most 500s and I've had several, two great ones now.

Enjoy the great trigger and the accuracy and power of these beasts.

B/C gaps are fine, one of mine is 0.008 with well over 1000rds through it, the other 0.004. Don

I'm not complaining really, just a bit anal when it comes to a stainless finish, especially on a brand new gun. If you look closely at my pic of the barrel you'll see it looks like whoever buffed it at the factory stopped short, just shy of the break. Anyway, I did find several older threads that addressed polishing stainless and the majority suggest using Mother's mag wheel polish so I ordered some to try. I'll post pics when I polish it out.

Did some bullet casting for it today and wow does a 440gn bullet empty the lead pot quickly. 10 pounds of lead gone in no time.

The Mother's mag polish showed up today and I'm here to tell you that this stuff is amazing. Spent just 25 minutes with a microfiber cloth and some Q-Tips and the difference compared to the factory polish job is night and day. Now she's ready to get dirty at the range.

Nice polishing result. Good thing you aren't casting 700gr heavies!
