Gorgeous gun. My guess was going to be 1992 but looks like someone smarter than me beat me to it!
I suggest a DeSantis OWB leather pancake with a thumbstrap. The most perfect commercial production holster. I carry my 3" M13 in one and I absolutely love it.

I’ve been looking for a 3-inch 65, yours is an excellent example.
Did you add the Tyler’s T-Grip? It looks great !!

Nice example of a M65. My 65-5 serial no. is BKC XXXX. It’s not as pretty as yours, it has a few rust spots from wearing rubbers for probably its entire life, but for now it is mine. I overpaid for it at $500 OTD.
I’ve had it 2 years and only put 50 rounds through it.
I will probably be selling it sometime soon. I’m getting old an am loosing interest in shooting. And my arthritic hands just don’t work like they use too.

Nice gun, Bill!
Love the Tyler's T.
I lucked into a 3" 65-3, myself, a few weeks, ago. It has become my favorite shooter.
Pictured here, wearing black and ivory BK adapters, with a Model 53, and a High Standard Model 106 Supermatic. I am on the hunt for a Tyler, like yours.

BEAUTIFUL GUN!!!
Don't know what you paid but I have been watching the 3" guns on the auction sites over the last couple of months and a) there are almost none for sale...b) prices start at $800 and go to $1200!!
I have a -3 and a matching 66-2...best .357 carry guns S&W ever made...oh for the "old days"...

I have the same gun in the same configuration (purchased new in the late 80's or early 90's IIR and absolutely love it! I opted to get the M65 over that of the arguably "better looking" M 66 (2.5" bbl) because I did not want adjustable sights in a carry gun. I also liked the extra 1/2" of barrel (adds a little more velocity in Magnum loads) and the fact that it didn't have the under-lug weight.
Mine still has the original factory finish and wears a Tyler T Grip. I use this as my Woods carry gun and use Buffalo Bore 180 grain LSWC .357 for that purpose. Lots of Bears where I go but so far never had to use the M65.

Thanks for the holster info. I'll probably start out with my Simply Rugged and see how it works. I do like DeSantis holsters though...

How do you like the Bianchi lighting grips?
Are they too bulky for carry in a holster?
Thanks,

Who doesn't like 3" revolvers? Mine is a LS but it goes with the other one. I'm not sure I can afford a nice 3" 65 nowadays.

For those who have 65-5 3” revolvers, is the back strap of the grip serrated? My impression is that 65’s prior to the -5 are smooth while the -5 is grooved. I’ve owned a 65-3 that was smooth while my current 65-5 is serrated. An article once theorized that the frames of the 65-5 were originally slated for Model 66’s, thus the grooves. Anyone have knowledge of the subject? Be safe and blessed.

Love the PGS Hideout grips for the K-frame. Used them on a 3" 65 and a 2" 64. I think I even liked them better than the Ahrends grips I used. *hides*

Your findings are the same as mine. My regular 65-5 has a serrated backstrap and my 65-3 is smooth.
My 65-5 ladysmith is smooth

Bill,
If you can help me price a M-65 Lady Smith that i am looking at.
Seller has no idea what to ask and I want to be fair.
Could you PM me what yours cost.
If anyone else has a recommended fair price please let me know.
The gun is in excellent shape, no scars, looks fired little, tight and smooth. original factory finish. 3" barrel, smooth unscarred walnut grips. No box, papers. Looks just like Matts` 65 in post 21.
Thanks
Jim

I paid $850 for one with box and all the goodies. I probably paid alittle much for the revolver but I bought it at the start of the pandemic and the guy just lost his job and was extremely worried, so I did not try get it cheaper. Plus it is almost new.

I'm not sure you over payed. 3" K frames have gone up steadily in recent years. Helping someone out pads that a little as well. I had a neighbor lady who had some stuff that I bought from her even though I wasn't in the market for what she had. I gave her a good price for it. My son-in-law got a nice Beretta 92 out of the deal...

Given the popularity of 3” guns, smith should do another run of them. But ( from a guy who detests stainless) if they do they will not offer it in blue.
I hate that smith seems to have abandoned doing anything remotely interesting in a blued finish.

My S&W 65 3" custom front sites.
This is my Smith & Wesson 65 3". I had the frame matted, except for the cylinder. I had the front sites dovetailed to the frame. I also had the cylinder where it can take moon clips are individual ammo. Also removed the hammer and had action work done to the trigger. This revolver is very smooth and I do carry it on a daily basis.

Might want to have look at the current Model 19 PC Carry Comp. Blue (matte) and 3" barrel.

Agreed -- they're my go-to on K carries. Stippling with a soldering iron and sandpaper is easy and for me brings them to near ideal.

Those resemble Trausch grips.
I wonder if that’s due to the French influence in Vietnam?
