Default Hoppe's Elite Gun Cleaner

On the recommendation of one of our forum members I ordered Hoppe's Elite Gun Cleaner to remove burn marks off of the cylinder of my S&W 327. I used a soft toothbrush and microfiber towel and it worked like a charm. Thanks for the recommendation. Here's what the cylinder looks like after using Hoppe's Elite upon return from my range visit yesterday.

The Hoppe's Elite Gun Cleaner is a very good cleaner .
The bottle says "scent free" and it's true ... Little or no smell, I can clean a gun and unlike old #9 solvent , I can bring it into the bedroom with no complaints from my wife who has a nose that a Bloodhound would envy .
She can smell things from a mile away ...no complaints with the odor.

My only complaint is the high cost ..2 ozs. cost $12.00
and that 2 oz bottle runs out really quick...good but PRICEY !

MPro-7 is the same thing. I bought a gallon if it on Amazon. WAY cheaper than buying the small bottles. I pour it into an empty vitamin bottle so I can dip a patch right into it like i would Hoppes #9. Cleans the barrel and chambers well and then I have enough on the patch to wipe down the frame and inside of slide. It works pretty well, but I still like using Hoppes #9.

That may have been me: I've recommended Elite since it was brought to my attention. Use it on my 360 and 340 PDs. I'm sort of a nut on cleaning guns: I've had other officers bring me their revolvers to clean after qualifying. Fortunately, their job used factory ammo that was clean burning: very little fouling present.

Quick question on your 327. You have the snub model, IIRC. Any indication of barrel loosening? Other forum members have reported such loosening on their 327s, but it is not universal. Thanks in advance.

Define "non-toxic". Would you drink it? I wouldn't! I still like Hoppes #9. Yes, it smells, but it reminds me of my younger days.

None whatsoever. I've had no issues at all with my 327 except for the front sight being slight drifted to the right which I have corrected. I could not be happier with my 327 especially the trigger action. Double action is 7.137 pounds and single 2.357 pounds and very smooth.

I've been using Hoppe's Elite for a few years. I just read the label very carefully and found no claim that the product is "non-toxic," only that it is "low odor" (definitely true) and "ammonia free" (likely also true). In fact, the label clearly identifies one component that they say can cause "serious eye damage." A cursory examination of the product MSDS, available on-line, shows other components of varying levels of toxicity, which is true of just about any other organic solvent mixture.

I enjoy the smell of #9. Guns donít feel clean to me if I donít smell Hoppes #9.

Amazon says it is non toxic.

Product description
The Hoppe's Elite cleaning line was designed with the active hunter and shooter in mind. This high-tech, odorless technology outperforms the standard cleaners and oils on the shelf today. Hoppe's Elite Gun Cleaner not only penetrates down to the steel's molecular pores while cleaning carbon, copper and lead fouling, but it also conditions the metal to repel future fouling. Hoppe's Elite reduces your gun cleaning time up to 80% with regular use and it is odorless, biodegradable, and non-toxic.

I checked the product description on the Hoppe's web site and, sure enough, they do claim that Elite is non-toxic, which is clearly not true according to their own labeling and MSDS. A material that can cause serious eye damage is toxic by any definition. Still a great gun cleaner that doesn't have any real odor.

Is 8oz worth $15.00? I'm looking for something to make cylinder face burn cleaning easier.

I paid $12.99 on Amazon so just $2 more seems reasonable to me.

When I looked at the picture I thought O Boy that took all the blue off the cylinder just like they say Hoppes #9 cleaner does, I thought this until I clicked on you next post about your new grips and then I realized it came like that. I dont make gun shows any more and I had not seen any new S&W's in a few years. Jeff

I have some of that, it does clean but it doesn't smell like anything so its kind of a mental hurdle to jump over.
