Default Airweight extra cylinder...

Hi folks,

An extra cylinder and hand for an Airweight are staring at me, and I’m wondering what mischief can be accomplished with these parts.

Let’s say I get lucky, and they are a drop-in to my gun. What could one do to add value to this extra?

9mm/moon conversion?

38spl moon conversion?

357 maximum? (Kidding, I enjoy my hands where they are)

In your shoes, I would probably chamber the second cylinder for 38 SUPER.

All of the shorter cartridges will still chamber and fire. So in addition to 38 SUPER you could shoot 38ACP, 9x21, 9MM parabellum, 380 ACP and probably others I am forgetting

All of my 940s have been opened up to 38 SUPER and I love it

Well you could use 357 Maximum cases cut just short of the cylinder and bore the cylinder straight through. then open all but the last 1/2" of the barrel then taper whats left of that and load shot in the cases. You would have a one of a kind Paradox snubbie.

9mm with moon clips would be my choice.

Hmmm. I've really had to ponder the question.

I haven't really considered myself a purist, but I've not thought about altering a cylinder for multiple calibers. Heck, I rarely push .38 Specials through my magnum revolvers.

Maybe I am a bit of a purist.

While I'm not a fan of moonclips, I was going to suggest a 9mm conversion for some caliber versatility. But then I saw colt_saa's post, and I have to admit, it does sound intriguing. Not something I would do, but intriguing nonetheless.

I'm in a similar situation.

I bought a 5 shot 357 Magnum J frame Titanium, cylinder when MidwayUSA had a great sale on them.

Then later, I bought a 340PD, so figured I'd use my extra Titanium cylinder as a spare.

But I've toyed with other ideas. I could put it into a 642 to get another really lightweight gun.. I'd have to be careful to load it only with 38 Special - not 357.

Another option is to put it into my 60-15 or 6-9 to have a lighter steel+titanium gun.

Colt_saa's ideas are also interesting.

I've got three Airweight 637-2 J-frames.
Each has three cylinders, stars, and yokes.
1) original stainless .38Sp
2) titanium .38Sp/.357Mag
3) titanium 9mm cut for moonclips

I carry them as 9mm. Weight is 12.5oz.
