I've been a big fan of the Glock in .45acp for many years now, but decided to get myself a new 642 as a retirement gift (and 442 was lonely). Installed new VZ grips. Then I came to this forum and realized how much I miss revolvers.
Around 1992ish, I had a 6" 686 and a 2" 686. Life was good with this pair. Then the auto pistol craze bit me. Made the mistake of trading both (young and stupid).
Fast forward to present-saw some of you talking about the 3" 686. I thought "Hey, that might be a better retirement gift!" Found 2 in stock-the Deluxe or the 3-5-7. Went with the Deluxe. This is my first one with a lock...
To the range-shot the 642 first. No surprises, had a group about the size of a volleyball. I realized I do not like the VZ's. Put some Uncle Mike's rubber boot grips on it (had them stashed from the olden days) when I got home and they feel much better.
686 Deluxe-WOW. First 7 shots in a fist size group. You tell it where to hit, it hit's! But...these wood grips are a no go for me. Slickest grips I've ever had. Ordered some Hogue rubber Bantams.
I ordered a holster for the 686. When it arrives-this may be the new carry gun. Now to get practice on speed loading again!
