Model 642 Powerport
I have a 2.125 inch S&W Model 642 with a powerport barrel. Its black rather than the usual silver color. Standard Catalogue of S&W lists it as a Performance Center gun; however, old ads for the gun say its a Pro Series.
I'm thinking of letting it go and not sure what it is worth. It is basically new in the box. I have never fired it and it does not look like it has been fired. I've had it for several years and since I've never fired it I think I will either sell it or use it for a trade so I need to establish a price.
Any thoughts as to value would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bill

Interesting gun Bill. I’m surprised no one has an idea.

At the present crazy-covid-riot market, no one can know. You could list it on the big auction site and no telling what it would go for.

- Product code 150460
- Original price in 2009 $529
- S&W announced this model in June 2008 as the PowerPort Pro Series. Pro Series is an intermediate product between the regular production and the Performance Center guns. These powerport models were produced from late 2008 & 2010 only. Has a black finish over stainless steel. All Powerport models were discontinued in 2012.
- Quite a few were given away at the "Friends of the NRA" program. Mine is marked NRA.
As they are .38 I think the value is between $450 - $500

Bill,
Sounds like a neat gun. The regular 642's are bringing 4-450 in my area. I would imagine an interested party going 5-550 for a PC model. Post a pic or two.....I bet you get a PM

You might, if you haven't already, check the major auction site for past auctions.
I know that I have wanted one but was unwilling to pay the price when one surfaced there a year or two ago. That may give you an idea of what it sold for then.
I am pretty sure it was up over $600 or I would have bit on it.
Good luck.

I spoke too soon, found some other photos.
Photos don't show the port well. Its in front of the front sight. The longer barrel gives you a longer ejector rod.
