Default 68-2 CHiP Commemorative .38 Price Question

LGS has .38 special California Highway Patrol 68-2 with presentation box for sale for $995. Wondering what folks think about the price.

I have a 66-2 and I know the guns are similar (okay, one is .357 and the other is .38 special) (saw a thread here where a 66 model number on the yoke was overstruck with 68) but my best buddy was a CHiP and I picked up a 4006TSW CHP in his memory. Am thinking about adding this via a trade in his memory as well...if the price is half fair. I may be able to do some haggling...but is where it's starting in the ballpark?

Looks in good shape, but I've not really handled it yet.

Not a bad price but I would offer a couple hundred less with cash on the counter. Sounds like it is the commemorative model due to the presentation case and not a gun that saw duty use. As a commemorative, it should be NIB to bring top value.

Funny part about that, the 68-2 wasn’t a CHP gun. It was LAPD. The original 68 was and the CHP association wanted a commemorative after the original order.

Just found out the gun is unfired. Does that help justify price?

And do these commemorative issues actually appreciate? I've never considered one before and have no idea how they work.

I have always bought guns to actually shoot and am also wondering if shooting it will decrease the value. I'm buying it in memory of a friend, but I also want to use it, like I use my 4006TSW CHP....it isn't just for the safe.

Do not buy ANY firearm hoping it will appreciate. Firearms ar not a good Investment

Buy firearms that you like. When you go to sell them, 10-20-30 years down the road they will sell for more than you paid for them and you will be happy

Unless you are a collector of unfired LEO Commemerative and have no intention of shooting it, that price is too high.

He will get it from some collector if he holds out long enough.
