Default Tyler T-Grips

Forum members...
I ordered the awesome Tyler T-Grips in May, until today no word, and was getting concerned. But great things happen and they (Bryan -owner) are catching up! So if you have any T-grips or Trigger shoes on order...be patient, heís on it. They are a small artisan family shop, and Bryan is focused on quality. In short, between moving his shop, regulatory approval delays and COVID, Tyler Mfg fell way behind. Bryan is a no nonsense guy focused on production, and has recently hired help for the customer communications end of things. The web site needs serious updating, and that is also in the works. So as a big fan of T-grips, Iíd like to get the word out to get everyone spreading the word that good things are worth waiting for...even in this overnight Amazon delivery world we are now in. Please spread the good word, and share the need for patience.

I’ve been using T Grips, or a substitute, since my ‘68 rookie year. My Model 10 square butt snub (former service revolver) fits me like a glove.

First post and it's an add for Tyler T-Grips???

Sounds like someone at Tyler needs an influx of cash. Maybe if you cleared out some back orders people would send money and buy your stuff.

Dear Centurion02,

As LONG time user and one time distributor of Ts please make the following suggestion to the current owner next time you communicate with him..."don't take orders"...it will solve all his problems.

Simply make up the batches of Ts and put them out on GunBroker. He will sell everything he can make and will have no "concerned" or dissatisfied customers...

This problem has been going on since Melvin Tyler sold the business to his niece and her husband DECADES ago. They let all the help go thinking they could do everything themselves and found out they couldn't..and the new owner apparently has learned nothing from their mistakes.

Bob

I have a number of Tyler Ts going
back a decade or more.

Recently decided to try the "new"
BK Grip Adapters. Had my order
within days of placing it. Though
"plastic" they seem to work just
as well if not better with their
double prong system. And they
look good, too.

I can’t get excited about the plastic BK grip adaptors. I hope Tyler T grips gets with it. It’s a better product.

Centurion02, I hope you are right since Tyler T's have almost a cult like following. I have heard this before with not much results. My son and I have since gone on to BK and we are happy with their products and firmer grip.

The BKs are very functional. I like the old Tylers though. I've gotten all of them from gun auction sites or eBay, mostly the latter.

I suggest both GunBroker and eBay, to add on to what SuperMan said above. Make the website a simple image gallery with both historical and modern images, then point buyers to the product elsewhere. The new Tylers look great on newer S&Ws with the Altamont magnas and Tombstone faux ivory or pearl grips. There may be more opportunities with some of the newer models from other makers out there as well.

If I knew for sure they had improved their business practices I've got an order of about 5 of em I need. Until then, I ain't buyin, and I am a serious Tyler T fanboy. Nothing better looking than a blued S&W with factory walnut and a bronze Tyler T.

An Ebay or Amazon store for Tyler would go a long way. Especially given that there are mostly standard sizes (K/L, N, etc) and colors to stock as opposed to anything outrageously custom.

Until Tyler can get it together, I've always had quick shipping and good experiences with BK Grips. I like the metal and finish of Tylers better, but I'll be damned before I deal with their arcane ordering process and questionable record on ever actually receiving what I order with no means of recourse.

Dumbest looking grip I've ever seen. I don't understand why one doesn't just buy an actual grip that performs well itself, without a prosthetic.

Additionally, with the myriad of problems people have with this company it's amazing they have a single customer left!

Because many Smith owners like their magna
stocks and don't find the inserts unappealing.

You, sir, are just a fuzzy-headed silly bunny.

They like them so much that they have to buy a prosthetic for them?

Sounds to my like they don't actually like them.

To many people, the Tyler adapters enhance the looks of revolvers. Their appeal is almost entirely cosmetic, though there may be some limited actual usefulness for a few. I've tried them and and am not a fan. Stocks that fit are far better from a practical standpoint.

I find the Magna stocks work very well as is on K-frame and N-frame revolvers. The adapters add something with an awkward feel that isn't really needed, but they look neat. Opinions vary a bit, I suppose.

Tyler Manufacturing makes a great product but IMHO is a poorly run & mis-managed business! Their customer service is just about nonexistent! Eventually you will usually get your order and as long as you understand that going into ordering, just send your order and check in and be prepared to wait! Eventually you'll get them.

I have been using different styles of "Tyler T grips" since the 70's.

As others have pointed out, there is a pent up demand out there.

I for one will not tolerate the aggravation of dealing with them on an order though.

Now the rhetorical question..... Who lost out on this deal?

My thoughts exactly. If the Tyler people really were trying to change their ways, they wouldn't send a shill to advertise. They would get on the forum themselves, do a mea culpa for the years of bad business practices, and explain how they're fixing it so people would feel confident in ordering again.

Burned once, shame on you. Burned twice, shame on me.

Kind of scratching my head over the comments that Tyler T-Grips are useless or cosmetic. Have any of you shot a hard-recoiling revolver with frame-width grips? You often bang your knuckle on the triggerguard.

Sure, here in 2020 you can go buy many varieties of target grips for just about any revolver. Back in the Tyler heyday, not so much. If you're trying to create a period look or just like old-school accessories they work great. You end up with something thinner than most target grips but with better ergonomics than magnas.

I agree with you hk... I have used them on my 58s with the original Service Stocks and it adds a LOT more control than without...

When I first became a distributor for Tyler they accepted credit cards. The first two orders were made using the card. On making the third order they could not take CCs any more apparently because they had had so many complaints the CC companies cut them off or they wanted/needed the cash up front to float the business... Either way there is no excuse for running a business like this...

I like the look and love the function of magnas plus T. Target grips present a longer reach for my trigger finger, which reduces my accuracy in DA. Magnas, by themselves, give me the reach I like, but don't have quite enough "meat" to firmly control the gun, from trigger pull thru recoil. Target stocks are too big; magnas, alone, are too small. Magnas, with a Tyler, are just right. My groups are noticeably tighter, with this set-up, than with either targets or magnas, by themselves.
I wish these folks would get it figured out, because I could use a few more T-Grips, but I'm not willing to pay the prices I see on eBay, lately.

Thanks for the update.... I put in a very basic order, a polished aluminum K-SQ adapter around the same time period.
Maybe it will actually show up.

Hahahaha! Maybe, maybe... But I do know that Tyler-grips are one of the sole reason I use "J-Frames" for me Meaty Mitts or otherwise I'd be stuck to only "N" frames and "Semi-Auto's"... So I appreciate his products and so does my wife and daughter! Rock on "T-Grips" as you make guys and gals with both big and small hands handle quality Smith and Colts in .38Special...

Winter Carry Gear... Mostly used in tandem rushing to CVS's Drive-Thru "when open the drive-thru that is" before closing for Prescriptions and CoughSyrup for the girls in "flu-season"... But what a quality pair and very comforting!

Of course, "Ripley" rides shotgun and she doesn't play... kinda like a "FuRRy New-York-Reload"...

Just because a company makes a good product doesn't mean that they deserve our business when they abuse their customers. The latest update on their website says 3-6 week delivery time and there are plenty of people who commented on this thread that they've been waiting 6 months to a year for their order to arrive.

They make 8 different size T-grips, how hard can it be to keep them in stock? They don't go bad after all. And this has been going on for several years.

I remember ordering my first Tyler catalog by mail years ago. When I placed my order for T-grips, they arrived in a few weeks. I've placed several more orders over the years until the wait times became ridiculous. Now I find my grip adapters somewhere else.

Despite some protests above the magna's are garbage grips, see quoted text.

Exactly! We are here... In 2020.

I would buy a grip that performs incredibly well, on it's own, without a prosthetic. That also, isn't ugly as hell, as the prosthetic thing is.

In fact, when I buy S&Ws they already come that way! But I'm also not hung up on anecdotal "science".

Someone above has been waiting since November?! Ignoring that they're ugly, and function worse than a modern grip; is there anything else that needs to be said?

November.

The fact that there's a long standing forum member who makes a competing; if still ugly, sorry ; ); version and y'all aren't falling over yourselves to give him business boggles my mind.

Actually, customers are giving BK Grips more business than is comfortable sometimes, and I think (but can't prove) that a majority come from this site.

Since the China Virus lockdowns began in March, demand has significantly surpassed prior years. (Sales in 2020 went past 2019 total sales during the first week of August.) The "plastic" adapters are cast in individual molds and need to have sprues and flash trimmed off before they're ready for sale. That's Xacto knife work, and with increasingly arthritic hands becomes hard to do for more than a couple of batches a day. There's a batch of black K adapters curing at the moment, and they'll go into inventory later tonight. There should be another batch of something made tomorrow, but probably not two.

Thanks to all those here who have supported, and appreciated, the plastic alternative over the years.

With regards to Tyler T Grips and the many years of problems not only fulfilling orders but even basic communication with a customer, "Fool me once...". They have this thing called the internet and I've been successful finding what I need on the secondary market.

I like my vintage revolvers to use vintage accessories and holsters whenever possible. I find T Grips to be extremely useful in that regard and to make my N and K frames easier to shoot well, albeit relatively inexpensively. Have used them for decades and decades.

If someone else doesn't "get it ", I couldn't care less.

The "plastic" adapters are cast in individual molds and need to have sprues and flash trimmed off before they're ready for sale.

Also have and enjoy the BK adapters I've ordered, and what's nice is you don't have to set your watch to 1974 to deal with them/you! Thank you!

Do wish you'd try squirting molten aluminum or brass/bronze into some molds so that could be an offering... j/k, know that's not possible with your method.
But, BK is quality stuff at a fair price for what's offered.

I prefer getting nostalgic vibes when viewing classic revolvers. Original grips/stocks rule. However, the smaller variety just don't seem to cut it when my hands require a more substantial grip area.

The T-grips fit in with older classics and give no additional rearward bulk while giving you more to hang onto. They are easily removed to maintain the original appearance. A case in point is this Colt Detective Special from 1959. Perfect solution!

Life's tough choices.
Give Ebay or Amazon a cut or give the same discounted price to the members of the gun community.
Notice any firearm pictures floating on the bay lately?

Those on the '71 Colt work better than anything else we've tried and will stay until something is made.

I've had an order in since January... took almost two months to get a response via text a few months ago that they were 'catching up'... still waiting. Had I read the various threads on Tyler, I probably wouldn't have ordered them.

I have several of the BK adapters and they are nice, but I wanted aluminum, like the originals, which are getting near impossible to find.

I don't mind the waiting so much... how many on here have waited as long or longer for custom grips or leather? The aggravation is due to the misrepresented wait time, and the complete lack of communication.

They sure don't waste any time cashing your check, though... do they?

If it wasn't for cashing your check, you'd never know that anyone alive was still monitoring the site.

Yes, I paid more, but I didn't pay it to them. Their loss.

Well my check was cashed 05-22-2020, not heard a word. Politely texted two weeks ago asking for an update, no reply at all.

Funny how money coming in seems to be able to be processed quickly and efficiently, while product going out seems to be affected much more by extraneous events...

If I could find a grip that feels exactly like a magna+adapter, I'd buy it without hesitation. There's simply nothing more comfortable in my hand.

As for T Grips, I switched to BK Grips years back. He ships very fast and reliably, and they are simply more stable on the gun due to the extra clip.

Wait, you're saying the T grip isn't even fully, rigidly held on the grip?! Hard to fathom, but these things are even worse than I thought.

Grip adapters have fans and haters.

I have used magna stocks and grip adapters (Tyler, Pachmyer, Mershon and S&W) on revolvers from 22 LR to the 44 Magnum. They all performed well and improved the way the revolver held in my hand.

The closest wood stock I found to the magna/adapter combination is this old pair of slightly modified target stocks on my competition revolver.

No need to shout, at least not at us...

There are several 'Tyler' threads, and I missed this one when I was updating...

I received my adapters on December 26, 2020. They were ordered at the end of December 2019.

It does seem that you will eventually get your grip adapters, but that certainly doesn't excuse the lack of communication. As I said in another thread, if they were up front about a year wait, I don't think anyone would care. Many of us wait that long for custom gunsmithing or custom leather without complaint. It's the '3 weeks' quoted on the site, and utter lack of communication after payment that infuriates the customer.

Thanks for the reply Rodan. Itís good to hear you received your Ts albeit a year later. Reading their website which periodically has been updated during the past year, further created concern and frustration where they say they are shipping in 3 to 6 weeks. Your order took 52 weeks, mine has been 27 weeks without any communication.
Again, glad to hear your order got delivered. Youíre correct, had they simply been more transparent, customers like us can make an informed decision prior to sending in our hard-earned money.
If itís gonna be a year, tell me that up front.

Again, a word to the wise. Never send a gun in for work with a T-grip attached. You will never see that T-grip again. Same for the original UM boot grips...

Right. Other companies, online pet medication, utilities, whatever cash our checks instantly but when thereís hang ups on their end they pull the ďĎCOVID cardĒ for excuses.
Personally I prefer the old Pach grip adapters. They feel better to me though they tend to wobble a little even when the screws tight. Tylerís are solid. Because of the endless horrible customer service from Tylerís Iíve seen here, how can anyone tolerate such a long wait with no responses?

Anyone interested in setting up a 'Tyler T-grip Betting Pool'?

You enter the date ordered, bets are placed on a delivery date, and notification given on the actual delivery date......
