At least the 327 is more practical for most but more expensive.

Currently S&W lists the MSRP of the 327 $165 more then the 329. My only guess would be that perhaps the 327 requires more machining. Between the integrated rear sight, dovetailed front sight, cutting 8 chambers for moon clips, and installing a trigger stop I would imagine there might be more manufacturing costs.
