Default New S&W 986 9mm Revolver

Love this gun! My buddy did much better with it than I did at the range, but I have lots of 9mm ammo to practice with it.

Lots of moon clips in my future too.

Nice gun. How do you like the slabside look? I am not a fan on any S&W revolver from J frames on up. My LGS has one coming in but I planned to pass on it since 9mm is so expensive and hard to find.
S&W reintroduced the 9mm revolver at just the wrong time with ammo in such short supply. I supposed you can count on it being cheap and plentiful again eventually. I have heard some whispering that prices are starting to come down, but that is unverified. Enjoy your new 986!

Bought a 986 several years ago when they first came out, and it was a good shooter . I eventually sold it to a buddy { a devoted 9mm lover } who wanted it more than I did. He still has it, and enjoys shooting it on occasion.

I love mine - get a lock delete from JD and a decent set of grips (IMHO) and you’re all set! Oh, and lots of moon clips and a tool.

Absolutely love the 986. Moonclips. And all.
I've shot it so much, I already broke it once.
A great shooting 7 shot L frame.

Welcome to the FORUM! I really like the 9mm revolver idea. Have been tempted to buy 1 myself. I like the looks of the older traditional looking revolvers. But, when I saw this at a gun show, had to have it!!!
686-6, 5" 7 shot Pro-Series. LOVE IT! Bob

Mbliss57 it's odd that you say that about 9mm ammo. The biggest reason I'm drawn to 9mm revolvers is because up here I can buy 9mm rounds for about half the cost of anything else.

The 9mm is just ideal. Enough recoil to know you've been to the range but not bone crushing like the 357 or 44 maggies. I'm not a fan of the slabside either but I'm really starting to reconsider the 986.

Isn't 9mm the most common handgun ammo?

Both 9MM ammo, and most reloading components are impossible to find in my neck of the woods, lately . But then again so is just about everything else , regardless of caliber .

Cabela's has been fairly steady. They had a dry spell but lately if you get there in the a.m. you can usually find ammo. Still no .38 Special or .357 Magnum though.

I can definitely understand the preference for more traditionally looking revolver - it is a revolver, after all.

However, the updated versions really are nice.

I have a 929 I shoot competitively and love it. Just awesome. I prefer it (6.5" tapered bbl) over my 627-PC (5" slab side bbl) even.

Highly recommend the 929!

I'm waiting on mine. Our state is communist and we have to wait for their approval to take it home. A pile of moon clips are waiting at home.
