In spite of hearing the "range wisdom" that a 22-4 with a very low serial number would likely shoot seriously low, I traded for one a few years ago.

Shoot low it did.

Ignored the advice from hereabouts to ship her back to S&W and broke out ol safe-sides. Filed a little and shot a lot and dialed her "on the money" for a 230 grain cast bullet at 13 steps.

Was involved at the time with other 45 projects and left the 22-4 in the safe a couple of years.

Got to thinking about how my eyes have taken to non-adjustable sights following last winter's cataract surgery and brought the 22-4 out in the light yesterday.

I indeed see her in a new light following yesterday's visit to the range. Her notched frame/coarse front sights appear to make her into my quickest 45 revolver at getting the first shot on target, and she re-fuels nearly as quickly as my T-K Custom-chamfered Mountain Gun.

The IL will be addressed, and this ol gal is in for lots of range/carry time.

I have mentioned here before how much I enjoy my nickel 22-4 purchased earlier this year. Mine is spot on for my eyes and 230 gr. bullets.

I always add how much more I enjoy this revolver after discovering RIMZ plastic full moon clips.

Glad to hear yours is getting use. M-22’s are way too nice to lay in a dark safe.

I bought one of the early ones and did send it back to S&W for a new front sight blade that corrected the low point of impact problem. These are great cast bullet guns. I much prefer Auto Rim brass to ACP.

My EDC is one of a pair of Model 22-4s I have. One is a Thunder Ranch iteration the other just a 22-4. Either is a good companion in a Brill styled holster.

Are they mim or pre mim parts?

I have a 22-4 TR.Did get the sight changed and it does shoot POA with 230 gr ball.I like it, fit and finish are much better than what I see on current S&W`s. Its an occasional carry on the farm and has accounted for a few critters.I came a cross a quantity of cheap 45 GAP ammo that I have been shooting.Some day I will remove and narrow the front sight since its too wide for my taste.Also shot 45 Auto Rim out of it that I like,never been a fan of moon clips.

My 22-4 (original owner) is well below 100 in serial number. A rest, file and some hard ball and she hits where I hold.

I only have two or three S&Ws with locks and the 22-4 is one of them. I got mine new about fifteen years ago. I realize there are fanatical anti-lock people, but I've never had a problem with a lock.

The only gripe I've had about my 22-4 was the undersized service grips. After shooting it the first time they were replaced with magnas and a Tyler.

To the best of my knowledge, all the Model 22-4s have the storage lock and MIM parts. At least my 3 do.

I have never had an issue with the lock on my ACP revolvers including the use of 45 Super ammunition.

The MIM internals make it much easier to smooth the action.
