Welcome aboard from ol' Wyo.
Good pick for a first S&W!
As I told a "collector" at the Lander Gun Show last Friday, Colt is
a four-letter-word!

Dear moderators, We need a thumbs down button.
Just kidding. The SW’s are definitely a different animal. I prefer the Smith Triggers to the Colts. Staging is much more distinct on the SW. Comparatively staging on the Colts is more based on trigger placement.
If you are dead set on the Colt trigger you might find the SW trigger odd. Hope you enjoy it.

I collect S&W Third generations and saw the Model 27 at a gun show and bought it "just to have a revolver" and see what the fuss was about. That was a few years ago.

I know what you mean! The trigger on this gun is spectacular and is better than the Python shooting single action. I cannot compare the double actions since I don’t shoot double action much. I have been spoiled and lazy carrying semi autos mostly.

I have both colts and smiths(2 smiths for every colt) and love them all. Each have their own pedigree but I love shooting my revolvers and wouldnt trade them for anything.Revolvers are my handgun happy place.

Here's my first S&W. Shipped in April 1995 my 640-1.
I bought it NIB in 2008.
I had a 25-3 and never shot it.

Sorry. I put the wrong model in the post. It is a 29-5 Classic Hunter. I have the 25-5 on my mind also. Nice gun. I seem to be stuck on 6 inch barrels. I would like a shorter N Frame barrel but none has come my way yet.

Welcome aboard from PA.
I cannot hold against you your appreciation of Colts, as I also have a bunch in the stable. None of mine are revolvers, mostly 1911's and a stray 1908 or so. Every Colt revolver that came to roost moved on to other pastures. One of my absolute favorites at the range is the S&W.45ACP 1917, or the Brazilian siblings. Enjoy your Mod. 29!

HA! I see the change.
I have no use for .44 Magnum caliber or guns unless you're using .44 Special ammunition in them, then I like them a lot, but I just love .45 Colt.

You're in trouble now
Looks like you've got yourself a beauty. Shooting S&W revolvers is like crack. Very addicting. I started with an old 32-20, recently got a 66 combat, and now have a 25-2 and a 36 in my sights. There is no cure. We have regular rehab meetings at the range.

Very nice revolver!!
Please be advised, revolvers are like feral cats.......you start feeding the first one and then some day you wake up and they’re everywhere......

Nice 29 you have there! Love unfluted cylinders! I have a 6" 29-3, that I picked a few years ago.

Great choice. The unfluted cylinder gives it a "serious business" appearance.

I posted the 44 spec I bought the other day in My second S&W revolver 24-4. My Dad had a 25-5 that came with a wooden display box. I hand loaded all the ammo for that in the 80’s. That was a great shooter but at that time and for many years I couldn’t get the 1911 out of me!

I know S&W fever all too well, when I started I wanted a K-22 and a K-38, finally got both and they grew in to 22 with everything from .22s to 44 mags! The problem with this sickness is that there is no pill or shot to prevent or stop it! However, don't believe I'll need intensive care because the X frames are just a bit too much for this almost 83 yr old.

There is no cure but keep filling the chambers and it helps suppress the symptoms!
