I don’t know much about it. I saw it online from a gun store 30 miles away so I stopped after work and bought it. It was used new in box and I needed a brother to my 29-5. I learned about it from a post from 2011 that had some great info. I joined the forum after that

NICE revolver!
I lucked into a 624 last year. That has been on my bucket list for a long time.
Blue or stainless, you just gotta love a .44 Special revolver.

Yes, there truly is something SPECIAL about .44 Specials...

Missing from the photo is the 396 NG I just obtained last week. Need a 696 to complete my X96 family.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

This was my truck carry until the 1911 fell out of the truck and got chewed up on the concrete. The N Frames replaced it! I carry the Halo V because I started wearing bibs and it fits in a pocket on my chest.

I have the same set, only mine have been fired extensively. I understand keeping yours pristine, but I just couldn't do it. At the time I bought them I thought to myself that they'd be collector's items one day. For a short while I thought of keeping them unfired, but that thought vaporized in short order. I've enjoyed firing them since the 80's. While they're still in good shape, they're clearly not NIB. I'm all grins with no regrets!

If I didn't already have a bunch of other guns to shoot I'd probably do the same thing you have.

Nice score! The 24-4 has properly sized cylinder throats that produces excellent accuracy. Every 624 and 24-3 that I have seen had these ginormous throats that were not conducive to good accuracy unless you used oversized lead bullets. I am curious as to your guns point of aim. My gun shot high at 25 yards with the rear sight all the way down. I replaced the factory front sight with a taller partridge from Dawson and now all is good. This gun is one of the best offerings in the 12 Revolver series in my opinion.

My guess is most 44 Specials are shot using lead bullets, many of which are reloads. My 24-3 is .430 throats and shoots a fairly common .431 lead bullet just fine. Just saying.

Wild pig..........Have you measured your throats with a pin gauge? On every 624 that I have examined, I could drop a Hornady 240 gr XTP bullet that is sized at .430 right through the cylinder chambers. They never even slowed down. The 24-3 is throated the same. This was just like the 25-5 in 45 Colt. Smith finally got the throats right with the 25-7 and the 625. Those older 44’s and 45’s really cannot match the newer renditions in the accuracy department.

Obviously, I have. How else would I measure them? Not doubting your experiences. Mine differs. What did all of yours measure?

Also, the pinned barrel 25-5s did have very big throats but the non-pinned 25-5s were after S&W retooling and were much tighter. Yes. I have one and measured it but I cannot pull the diameter off the top of my head... Honestly, I am not trying to be argumentative just relating my experiences.

Same experience with my 24-3s & 624s. You can throw a cat through the cylinder throats. More like .432. They're still fun to shoot though!

I’ve got one of the Lee Horton’s like yours at the bottom. Great pistols . . .
