Craig Spegel grips
What are your thoughts on the old Craig Spegel design grips from Uncle Mike's? If I remember correctly, they used to get great reviews.
I should mention, these are the rubber J frame models.

I always loved the Uncle Mike's Boot Grip! I also think UM's grips are way better than Pachmeyers! Pachmeyer grips have let me down twice - when the metal insert tore through the rubber and cut into and started rusting the grips frame. One instance was on my M586 and the other was on a 1911. After that happened two times I took off the Pachmeyer's and never used them again. Uncle Miles do not have metal inserts.
I'm pretty sure UM's Grips have been discontinued but may be available on the used market. I used a UM's Boot Grip on my M60-7 for many years with great success.

I think you are asking about the rubber grips? They were designed by
Craig Spegel, made I think by Butler Creek, and marketed by Uncle Mike.
They are great IMO. Here is a set on my S&W Model 67 Combat Masterpiece.
And, if I remember right, my S&W 642-1 came with the
Spegels on.

The Uncle Mike's boot grips are okay. I'm not sure how long S&W used them as OEM grips. They were standard on my Chiefs Special Model 36-9, shipped in February 1998.
If I'm going to use a rubber grip I prefer the Hogue Bantam grips. They don't use a screw, but rather you use a special Hogue-supplied tool to make them slip over the back strap. They seal to the grip handle perfectly. S&W didn't use them as OEM grips as far as I know, but here they are on my Chiefs Special Model 36-2, factory Double Action Only.
Craig's wood grips are my favorites, and you can sure see where the design came from for the UM boots.
Here's my redone Baby Chiefs Special with Craig's "Baby boot grips." They're not simply a regular sized Chiefs boot grip cut shorter; he had to make them especially for the Baby Chiefs' ⅛" shorter grip handle.
And then, there are Craig's extended boot grips on my Model 940. They rather resemble the Uncle Mike's Combat J-frame grips, but Craig goes the extra mile and makes the grip tall enough to reach the top of the back strap on the Centennial models -- most grip makers do not.

How to make a silk purse out of a sows ear. Put a pair of Craig Spegel's
extended boots on Colt's Agent.

Are the Uncle Mikes Rubber Grips worth anything on the secondhand market in the US? I know where there is a stash of them located here.

Yes, they bring pretty good money because they’re discontinued and they work well. Same hold true for Bianchi Lightning grips. The J RB Boot grips can bring $30+. J RB Combat grips bring a bit more. Uncle Mike’s K/L RB grips also do well, sometimes topping $50-$60.
If you really want a shocker, check out the UM rubber grips for the Browning High Power. They can go as high as $150!
I regularly find UM revolver grips at shows for $5-$10 and have a tub of them. This year is an exception, but we typically have at least one show per week in a 60 mile radius during the gun show season (September through April). A lot of people in sparsely populated rural communities don’t have that luxury and need to compete at auction or do without.
I see you’re in Australia. ebay is the place to get top dollar for them, but they won’t allow us to offer them to international customers because of their interpretation of ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulations). We can’t ship scopes out of country either. Make sure your government and ebay will allow it before buying a bunch of grips for resale.

The UM/Spegel boot grips are fine grips. IIRC, my 642ND came with them. I may still have a set back at my parents' house. Spegel's wood boot grips are probably my favorite. They're shaped "just right" to fill the hand without being bulky.
However, I'm not a fan of rubber grips, revolver or semi-auto. I am currently using PGS Hideout grips, which are hard plastic, on my 642s. My 1911s wear wood grips. My Beretta 92FS wears LTT/VZ G10 grips.

I have used the UM grips, and a few years ago wanted some for another model revolver. I telephoned UM's. The customer service woman who answered the phone had no knowledge of UM ever marketing grips for handguns. In fact, her tone suggested she was appalled by the suggestion that Uncle Mikes had ever marketed anything as repugnant as handgun grips
