Default Looking for some info on a new to me 686 SSR

I just picked up a used S&W Pro Series 686. It has a 4 barrel and has dark wood stocks/grips with SSR engraved in them. Under the crane is printed DJU3477 and 686-6. On the metal of the crane is stamped/engraved 568. As purchased the standard front sight has been replaced with a green fiber optic sight.

My questions are:
1) When what this revolver manufactured?

2) Where can I get a new ramp style front sight with the red plastic insert? Is seems that replacement ramps come in various heights and I don't know how high the stock sight would have been.

I'm fairly new to revolvers as the last one I owned was a chrome plated .38 that I sold back in 1982.

I ended up selecting this particular revolver as it had the smoothest double and single action trigger pull of any of the new or used 686's the gun store had. I think I'll love this gun once I can get some ammo for it.

The 686SSR is a current model. My Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson book indicates the model was first made in 2007.

4th Edition, 2016.

I suspect your revolver was made after 2016 as I've got two S&W revolvers from 2016, but with prefixes starting with the letter "C". My SCSW book doesn't have much info after 2015. If you have the original box, the label will provide us more accurate info.

See S&W's webpage for the 686SSR model:

This front sight (although the description indicates for a different model) might work. I'd probably call S&W to make sure. I believe the 686SSR has the "DX" style interchangeable front sight.

My 686 SSR has a prefix: DKK. I purchased it new March 2020.
Made it DAO with 6 1/2 lb. trigger for IDPA. It does have a nice trigger out of the box though. hth

I sold mine to a customer that "had to have it" but I as sure the front sight is easily replaceable without tools. I had a fiber optic and a gold bead that I used interchangeably. Be careful as I believe there are a couple of different heights.

You now own a really nice revolver.
