Trigger return spring question
Way back in the early 80's as I remember it, S&W sold a lighter trigger rebound spring than the factory installed spring. I believe it was called a "combat trigger return spring". Do any of the old timers like me remember this, and does anybody know the spring rating? I know they existed, cause I installed a couple in older revolvers I own. TIA in advance for any info.

Welcome to the forum. S&W did sell what they called a "single action" rebound slide spring. It's listed as an option in the parts book as part number 05387, and labelled "SA". I'm not sure if it's still available.
I remember using the spring in my PPC revolvers as an alternative to cutting coils off of the full power spring. I have no idea what the spring's rating was, but it was just a bit lighter.

Spring kits
Today we have commercially made spring kits bought thru Brownell's ! they have a new main spring and generally 3 trigger return springs of different rates. These will improve todays factory trigger pulls!

The normal factory spring is said to be rated at 18 lb. If you have just the trigger and rebound slide and spring in the gun with the hammer out, the trigger pull will be around 4 lb. on a trigger pull gage.
Wolff Springs makes rebound springs rated from 11 through 16 lb. in 1 lb. increments. The 11 lb. one is a little over 2 lb. pull and the other ones are incrementally increasing to just under 4 lb.
When you add the hammer and mainspring to the equation, the trigger pull is a good bit more.

I have found that in most revolvers, the 14 lb rebound spring will make the trigger much improved, without causing problems with the reset.
