Mag-na porting on M29-2?

Just picked up a new to me 29-2 4” it’s ported and has aftermarket finish as well just curious if anyone knows if mag na port leaves any identifying info on gun after work done by them? Thank appreciate any help.

The port shape is characteristic of that company. Perhaps call them to see if they have a record of your new gun being in their shop in the past?

That’s definite mag-na-port design port and I have had several but never saw any identifying marks

I own several Magnaported firearms. They have good records. There is a charge for them to engrave their logo. It isn't high. In my view, you recover that charge if you sell it later. If the gun was blued originally, you'll want to refinish it any way. If the custom finish was put on by someone else, they may have told the original owner not to have it engraved with the logo. Go figure.

I did send an email this evening with picture and inquiry with serial # so hopefully they retain records of past jobs. Thanks!

Not unless requested at the time.
I had a 629-2 ported by them and other than the work specified there are no additional markings.

I emailed them Sunday evening with pic and serial number inquiring and haVe heard nada. I shot it for second time on Tuesday definitely loud and dirty wore muffs I usually do plugs but had a good time shooting that’s the important part!

I've got a 29-3 4" that is Magna-ported. I got it in nearly new condition far cheaper because it was ported. Cleaning is a pain, and I really can't feel much difference between it and non-ported 29s. I'm not selling it, just not impressed with porting.

Agree would never do myself but price was right and always room for one more round here!

I've got a 29-2 frankengun with a 6" classic full underlug barrel that's mag na ported and also a 66-3 4" mag na ported gun. Both shoot very well and I can definitely see the venting of gasses when conditions are right.
I'd say that the porting does work but it doesn't turn a magnum into a .22.

It is a little more to clean around the ports but not a biggie.

I wouldn't pay a premium for the porting but I would definitely buy a gun with mag na porting if the price is right.

I have an early S prefix Model 57 .41 Magnum with a 6" barrel that is Magna Ported. The one thing I can say about it is that you don't want to shoot cast bullets as the vaporized lead coats the sight ramp and ports.

I had a Magnaported Model 66 a long time ago, like about 30 years ago. I bought it at a Cincinnati area pawn shop for about $100 less than the owner wanted for a non-ported 66 sitting next to it, I think it was $240 in nearly new condition. I liked the way it shot, but not cleaning it. A friend shot it and loved it and he's had it many years now. It still looks great.

My first handgun was a 7.5" Redhawk in 44 magnum.
It's quite pleasant to shoot with full power loads (24gr W296/240gr bullet).
Then I got a 6" 629-1 and while having a little more recoil was controllable as well.
Deciding I needed a more compact 44 for carry, a 4" 629-2 tapered barrel "Mountain Revolver" made it's way here.
The recoil is stout but the muzzle flip was outrageous and approached 90°.
This made me consider and finally send it in for MagNaPorting.
Glad I did.
The muzzle flip is mostly gone and the recoil quite controllable as it is now almost straight back.

Maybe this is unusual but cleaning has not been all that different from any other revolver.
The ports themselves autoclean if a couple of full power jacketed loads are fired.
(The gas pressure at the muzzle is around 10kpsi, very high temperature, and moving at supersonic velocity.)
I have never noticed anything built up in the ports.
The edges are as sharp as the day it came from MagNaPort.
There are slight smudges of lead on the side of the front sight blade but nothing that gets in the way of operation.
Not wanting to affect the frosted bead blast finish I have not gone to any great lengths to clean these off.
I don't clean the burn rings off the front of cylinders either.
See what you think.
This is after years of occasional firing.
Several hundred rounds of lead and jacketed.
I never kept count.

Sweet setup I’ve cleaned it twice like I clean all my other’s and find you to be spot on just the small dap on barrel remains which it’s a shooter so who cares the recoil is definitely stout for me but tolerable my other 44 is a 629 fully lugged classic hunter 6” so a bit more gun there to soak it up. I appreciate the feedback looks like a Mernickle holster on the stand if I’m not mistaken I have a couple for my Ruger Single actions.

Yeah I like the Mernickles even if they stick out from the hip a little more than a pancake.
The flat smooth backside allows one to adjust your belt normally and is very comfortable.
I shoulda got a safety strap on that holster and later did get a couple with them.
Much more secure.
