Good afternoon, ladies and gents. Just acquired a holy grail pistol on my list, a 651-1 snub nose in its original box. I've done a good bit of research on the 651-1 snub, but was curious to see if anyone knows actual production numbers and how many variants/runs there were of this gun and if there were any actual differences in the guns. I know that most if not all of the -1 Lew Horton guns had serial prefix LHS- and have the clean looking stamped serial numbers, then there were the -1 guns with the serial number that looks like it's a bunch of dots that make up the numbers. I understand there are also 651 no dash snubbies.
What I have is a -1 with the dot style serial CBD49XX, product code 103900, spec ord code 6173. From my understanding this is the same product code that was assigned to the Lew Horton guns as well. The box says 651 although the gun is stamped 651-1.
My initial guess was this may be a later 90s RSR gun, but another guy that I talked to said there was a run of these from 1983-1988 that would've likely been when my gun was made. I would've guessed at least early 90s based on the serial prefix, more likely mid to late 90s, and now that I think of it, the gun's box is the later blue plastic so there's no way this is an 80s gun, right? Perhaps someone with more knowledge could weigh in.
I also just submitted my application and payment for a SWCA membership, so I will likely cross post this in the applicable forum there too.
Looking forward to any replies. Thanks in advance.
