Default Hogue Monogrip on a S&W 500 8 3/8”

Anyone use Hogue Monogrips on a S&W 500? I use them on my Ruger Redhawk and they are the most comfortable grips I have used.

My 686 was wearing Hogue Monogrips when I acquired the gun and that's
what it wears when it goes to the range.

I think the only grip that Hogue sells for the 500s is the factory grip which has some shock absorbing material in it.

I had a beautiful pair of Hogue laminated grips with a flare on the base. Worked beautifully, let the gun recoil upwards very much like a big bore SA revolver.

Sadly my 500 destroyed the grips in short order and they won't make any of those anymore.

Caution is warranted, 500s are hard on grips and optics. Don

I thought the X-frame hyper-magnums came with Hogue Tamer grips standard. These will fit K/L/N/X round-butt frames and have a special elastomer insert at the top of the grip where the web of the hand falls. If yours is not so equipped, I'd advise you get some post haste. They're inexpensive and, now, available directly from Hogue.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

Also 500’s are hard on 500’s, and my gel padded factory grip is already wearing out (bought the gun last month).

Surprisingly, the X frame grips are smaller than the N frame grips. Furthermore the X, K, and L frame grips are supposed to be the same fit.

I installed my N frame grip (629-6) to my 500, and my hand position was almost perfect - too bad theres a gap. Also, the X grip is to close to the trigger for me, as my finger is too far in the guard (shoot to the right). The recoil also causes the thumb piece to smack the knuckle of my thumb like a course cheese grader- I just tape up the effected parts on my hand. The X frame just too compact for my hand

I also installed the Hogues on my 586 no dash. I like the way they keep my middle finger off the trigger guard. (ouch!)

I shoot a 629-4 Mountain Gun that came with the Hogue Monogrip, and the gun was brutal to shoot with full charge ammo. I ordered the X Grip Tamer, like the one that came on your gun, and it helped tremendously. The Hogue x Grip Tamer can only be purchased through S&W. I guess it all depends on your hand size, but the Tamer worked for me, but the standard Hogue Monogrip did not.

No longer true. S&W's licensing agreement must have run out because now you can purchase from both S&W and directly from Hogue. You can even purchase them from Amazon.

Adios,

That must have changed since I got mine. Thanks for the correction.

X frame will accept K and L frame grips as well. So the Hogue Monogrip would fit was just curious if anyone used it since the Hogue Tamer that comes stock on the 500 is slowly deteriorating since it's so soft.
