Default Opinions wanted on trade opportunity for 29

A local gun shop has a pristine 29-3 (no box) that he is willing to trade me for a Glock 19 and a Polish made I.O. ak variant. His 29-3 is almost new looking with only some tiny handling marks on the grips. Please opine.

I see these 29-3s at asking prices around $900-1000. You decide. I have a 29-3 and it works just fine, even though it isn't pinned and recessed. Only you can decide if the value works for you. It would be an easy decision for me 'cause I am not into Glocks nor AKs. The 29-3 will not depreciate, Don't know about the Glock and the AK

Both your trade guns are hot commodities in todays mkt. Glock 19's going for $600+. Assuming the I.O. is a full size AK maybe with folder it's $750. So you're trading almost $1400. Have you got other HD alternatives if you trade the Glock.

One or the other plus $200 would be my offer. You can go another $100 or so if you need to. I would rather have a 29-3 than either of the guns you mention. But, that don't mean I should trade away a lot more value. He can move either of your guns for good cash way faster than the 29. Right now its a way better sellers market for those type guns.

As stated, your Glock and AK are hot items right now. Gun shop owners are not known to make generous offers. Your loss is their profit.

.44 Mag S&Ws are abundant and a good deal can be found.

I agree, the Glock and AK are hot ticket items, commanding high prices. Big revolvers like the Model 29-3, which is not highly thought of by collectors and especially when there is no box and papers, are less popular. Remember, the gun shop's job is not to be fair to buyers or sellers, but to make a profit for the shop.

Right now gun buyers are in panic mode. You could sell either the Glock or AK at ridiculously high prices pretty quick. If you do want to sell them, now is the time and for cash only. You'd come out way ahead.
Otherwise, make a cash offer on the 29-3. Trades are almost always a lopsided deal and usually favor the other guy.

29-3 is only a great shooter with oversized cast lead. They have larger throats than current production guns or post 1995/6 production guns. If you shoot factory jacket ammo, not so great.

The basics of deal OP mentions for me are these points:

1) Market value of the G/AK is relatively higher right now;
2) I have no interest in those models;
3) I'd be inclined to sell at highest return NOW;
4) While personally I'm more interested in revolvers, the classic observation made above ".44 Mag S&Ws are abundant and a good deal can be found" is very true;

I wouldn't make the deal as stated unless I had far less in the G/AK.

Sell on better terms & buy the (or another one that comes along) revolver at a better price.

What YOU have THEY want, opportunity to make bigger profits. IMHO.

Before buying or trading into a used revolver go to Youtube and search “how to check out a used revolver.”

A polish ak with a milled receiver? These are up in price. A glock you can replace. I’d go with a glock plus cash. Keep the ak. I’d go for it plus a few rings of fresh polish kielbasa.lol

What version of polish ak?

polisk ak - Google Search

Before I quit magnums, I had a 29-3. Throats and bore were very good and shot cast almost as good as my target revolvers.

I.O. AKs might be hot to the uninformed right now, but they are junk and everybody in the AK world knows it. I would value your Glock and I.O. Together at $900-$1000. I have no idea what the going price for a 29-3 would be.

Yes, I have another 19 identical to my trade gun. I know that my two guns are higher overall retail So I’m a little torn, but I really want this 29. I don’t want to get beaten up on n the trade though. I might try the get a 100 bucks free m him and call it good.

It’s a stamped receiver from I.O. I don’t recall the actual model from io but it is pretty much a standard akm type

If you really want the 29, I'd sell the Glock and AK. Then buy the 29.

I just checked the auction site and Glock 19's are closer to $700 and up right now.

On the local to me buy and trade site AK's are $800 plus.

Would you use the Model 29-3 more than the pieces you would trade for it? Would the Model 29-3 bring you more satisfaction in ownership? If either answer is yes, do the trade and don’t look back.

Everyone is so afraid that a LGS might make a little money yet we are all saddened when they go out of business. Shop local, support small businesses or don’t complain when the only thing left is a big box store miles away.

A good trade is one in which both parties are happy at the outcome. Sounds like what you describe.

The AK is the real question here, do you have another riffle for protection with ammo right now? Is the AK your only riffle? Keep it if it is. You may need it, very soon.
To me the Glock is worthless collector wise, but like others have said, the AK is at a premium right now, so if you have another riffle I'd tell him I'd trade the AK for the 29 straight up. Keep the worthless Glock.

What’s the cash price on the 29? If fair, buy it. Then decide if you want to sell any of your currently owned guns.

I agree with Strawhat. The one thing I might consider is how much $$ I had in the two guns being traded. Yes the Glock and AK are in demand right now. It’s a good time to part with them and (in my opinion) upgrade to a great revolver.

I lnow when I trade with a LGS it won’t be an even value deal. If i get what I want in trade for something I don’t I’m happy.

It’s not ALWAYS about money.

Dan

Worth a try. You could also tell him that the gun is useless without ammo...maybe he'll throw some .44 Mag in the trade as well???

If You really want the 29 and You have little use for the AK and the G then by all means do the trade. Ask for some ammo to be included.

Default AK ??

To my way of thinking an AK is like a lottery ticket. If the political landscape tilts the wrong way it could become priceless or near worthless. Many scenarios. It could be legislated out of legal private possession, in which case it would be either worthless or subject to a nominal buy back allowance. Pick your scenario. AK's don't enjoy the panache of being "America's Rifle" that AR's do and are more vulnerable to legislative restriction. My most likely scenario is that the federal government flips and AK's become a Class 3 NFA weapon requiring local LE approval, ATF approval and $200 tax stamp. Even though this scenario is most likely, its probability is low. Lots of other crazy stuff could happen. What is certain is that you have a legal one for now and many prospective paths make it very valuable, no matter how much esteem you hold it in. I recall being able to buy Class 3 Sterling SMG's for $3,500 not that long ago. Wish I had.

If it was a 29-2 or earlier, I’d probably do the trade. 29-3 or later, probably not.

Wait until after the election. If Biden gets in, the Glock and the AK clone are gonna go thru the roof. If not, you haven't lost anything, and life can go on pleasantly. plus, when the left goes crazy, it might be good to have a 19 and an AK.

Congrats If you are happy , it’s a good deal.If you are going to shoot your purchase,, try 44 specials , your hands will thank you and you can learn to shoot it the easier way. 44 special is manageable , even fun to shoot.
