Default Gun Identify or age

Hopefully this one will be fairly easy. It is a Model 624 no dash. Serial #AHB685x 6 1/2 inch barrel stainless in 44 special.
Hope I did the picture thing OK. Computers are not my forte. Let me know if I need to provide more info.Model 624 no dash.jpg

According to the book, the "AHB" numbers date to 1985. Hope this helps.

To the best of my knowledge they all came out in 1985.
I got 2 of them at that time and the 3rd one later.
Skeeter Skelton promoted them in his columns and I was heavily influenced.
While the 624-1 etc. is listed in The Book, I have never heard of or seen one.
If anyone out there has a 624-1 or -2 I'd love to see a picture and maybe the serial #.

Be aware those guns have quite large cylinder throats as do most all the 44's from that era.
They will shoot best with larger, softer bullets.

That's good news as I have a boatload of cowboy reloads, so I have lots of rounds that fit that description and do indeed shoot nicely from this gun.

Cool!

One of my favorite bullets, when not shooting cast, is the Speer 200gr 44 Special Gold Dot.
It is a quite soft, thinly plated bullet with a slight concave base that obturates well.
It also happens to be the bullet in their (now discontinued) 44 Special SD ammo.
I carry those and practice with a handloaded clone consisting of 7 grains Universal.

As you can see, the locally cast SWC doesn't do quite as well.
And the LaserCast is an even harder bullet better suited to the magnum.

I have a 24-3 in the same age bracket and I shoot GT 250gr Keith style bullets. They are on the softer side and will group all bullets touching at 20 yds off a rest.

It is a "model of 1985 .44 Target Stainless". 624 is easier to remember.

Looks like the twin of mine . Mine does chamber the 44 magnum round , but I don't think I'm shipping it back . Read too many stories here to trust them with my 624 .
