I have a 351PD in 22 Mag that holds 7 rounds. I don't think a J frame 22 with more than 7 rounds.
EDIT: I stand corrected! Didn't know the newer J frame 22s by S&W held 8 rounds, since I don't own one. Learn something new every day!

Yes, the model 317 holds 8 22 LRs. No room in a J frame diameter cylinder for more.

As mentioned above the 317, which is mostly aluminum and is really light.
Also the 63 which is all steel and weighs almost twice as much.

S&W also lists the 43 C on their website which is a double action only 317 with black finish.

S&W does make the model 43c snub nose, 8 shot, .22 revolver. I nearly bought one recently, but the barrel was canted.
I bought a Taurus 942 8 shot snub nose .22 instead. Very happy with it. Never thought I would buy a Taurus over a Smith, but I did.

63
Buy the 63 in 3 or 4 inch. The K frame 617 has a full lug barrel. It was no fun to carry in the woods. I sold my 617 and haven't missed it at all.
The 63 does anything you want and doesn't pull your back pack waist strap to one side plus it shoots minute of squirrel or snake well. It is also a good understudy to a Model 60-15 in 357.

My wife has a 317 and has put over 1000 rounds threw it with the only problem being I didn't know how to clean it properly for the first year. She only shoots 22 quiets in it, she doesn't like recoil.

You didn't specify if you were only interested in DA/SA. Of the three .22 LR revolvers I own, only one is a DA/SA with adjustable sights: a 4-inch, six-round Mod. 63 that was built back in the early '80s. It's been a good plinker and small critter handgun. The DA trigger pull is still a bit stout, which is kinda common in J frames, but the SA pull is smooth and crisp.
If you might be interested in Single Action only revolvers, I could recommend a couple. I bought a fixed-sight, 5.5 inch barrel, 6-round, Ruger Single Six that's built on a steel frame back in 2011. The frame size fits somewhere between a J and K frame. It looks like the new Ruger Wrangler, but it's blued steel, with a stainless hammer and trigger. Ruger also makes a popular stainless steel Single Six Convertible .22LR/.22 Mag. that has adjustable sights.
My most recent .22 LR purchase is fixed-sight Cimarron Mod. P Jr., a 10-round, 3.5-inch barrel single action, which is actually a Uberti made, scaled down Colt 1873 clone. It's all steel, and heavier than the others, but I couldn't resist having 10 rounds and the aesthetics of a case hardened frame and hammer. It's just a beautiful little western-style gun that shoots as good as it looks.
I'm sure others have their favorites, and will chime in with more choices. Have fun picking out your new handgun.

The Taurus 94 is a 9 shot 22LR revolver. It's about J frame size, perhaps ever so slightly larger (if you really can't get 9 rounds in a J size cylinder.)

I used this Taurus Model 94 for many years, to teach folks how to shoot.
It holds 9 cartridges in the cylinder. When I retired from teaching, I gave
the gun and leather to a great-grandson.
It fit perfectly in holsters made for the J Frame.
BTW those boots are by Altamont.

I have a 317-3 , 8 shot , Air weight , 3 inch bbl and adjustable sights .
In a belt holster on trail or fishing you never know it's there .
8 shots is a good number of rounds in such a light and compact revolver .
This one is a favorite ... really like the adjustable sights .

Another vote for the 351PD here (I must have written that 100 times here). A great little revolver, lightweight, and shoots the .22 magnum cartridge. I believe it has the same stats as the .380acp.

I have a couple of High Standard 9 shot sa/da 22's I like. They were made in a cowboy style and their Sentinal model which had from 2" to 6" bbls. All shot well and are affordable if you just want an occasional shooter.

I believe that H&R made the most 22 cal revolvers in different models. I found the s&w, colt, ruger on the expensive side but the H&R revolvers very affordable. My online dealer sometimes has many 22 revolvers they come and go selling out fast. I’ve seen some 22 revolvers go as high as $1,700 and some low as $595. Joesalter.com
I think that h&r makes the 9 rd revolvers too. I bought the misses a Taurus m94/4” 9 shot 22 revolver. In excellent condition.
I believe There are 22 cal speed loaders for the m94, colt and s&w revolvers

I have a 63, and just recently bought a pre 18. I also have several pre 17s. The 63 is lighter, smaller and harder to shoot than the K frames. The pre 18 is a real joy. It got a hundred rounds or so today. Also, the J frames have the coil main spring instead of the leaf, which changes the feel of the double action trigger. I shoot almost all double action, so there is a difference for me. If you only shoot single action, both have outstanding single action triggers. I have small hands, but I still need the combat target stocks on the 63 to make it feel good.
You really have to shoot both to decide which one you like best.

I really like the s&w k22 and the colt officers target revolver. The colt has a larger frame. There both six shots.

I purchased a 43C last week. I am liking it so far. At 11.5 oz, it's the lightest gun I have owned.

Ruger also makes higher-capacity single actions. The Single Ten holds 10 rounds of .22lr and the Single Nine holds 9 rounds of .22 WMR
