Thumbs up My 681 custom

So ....many years ago I met Vito who was a master gunsmith at the performance shop and his specialty was revolvers. I had a 681 with a 4 inch barrel but I wanted something handier. He said “send me your revolver . I’ll make it happen”. 6 weeks later I had a 3 inch 681 with and action job , some cylinder work to slicken up dropping empty’s and loading fresh ones and a hi viz front sight.
This is one of my favorite Performance Center customs. I have a few. Enjoy the pics.

Talking 681

Nice gun. I had one similar built by magnaport. It was a great shooter. I sold it to a shooting buddy for funds to help pay for some chemo treatments. I beat the big C but he refuses to even think about selling it back. I can't blame him...

I like that one! I have seen other 681s that made me cringe.

That's a beauty, I regret selling my old 681 (some foreign police trade in, still not sure where it came from).

3" 681! Sounds like dream revolver to me. I love fixed sight revolvers.

Just a great pair of revolvers you have. But how do they shoot? As good as they look?

They shoot great. Vito did a third revolver for me. More action work and a front sight but I miss old time gunsmiths like him. Here’s the 3rd gun. Carries a lot!

Is that a full ejector shroud ladysmith barrel on a regular 65? That would be many people’s dream gun

I have a couple of fixed sight revolvers . I always thought it weird that they shot so accurately . You can get an adjustable sight revolver that it takes forever to line up the sights , then you change loads and you have to start over . Yet I can take my m64 and it'll eat anything and shoot true .

^^^What he said! Re your 64, next time at the range, try taking your finger off the trigger and let the gun shoot by itself. I do this all the time with my 2 casino 64s. Very few people know that the 10/64 can do this. No such thing as a free lunch however, the 64s insist that I reload them myself. Oh well...

3 inches,, WOW, I never even thought about that for my 681!!

My 681 is the only CF revolver that comes close to being a "carry" gun,,
the 3 inch barrel would really push it over the top,, as to a defensive revolver that could be carried easily.

Yes, move my name to the list of those envious of those short barreled beauties!!

Yes sir.

A Vito special. He said he’s never seen another one.

The only thing that would make the 681-3inch better would be if it was a round butt.

Thumbs up Very neat!

Very neat conversions...there is just something about 3" fixed sight revolvers...I have never owned a 681, but what a great looking revolver...

Thumbs up

I never met Vito in person, but spoke to him a couple times on the phone. He did some work on a couple 686s for me. I still have one, a family member the other. I don't ever intend to sell mine.
