Default I am glad I still have a paycheck

Stopped by my favorite LGS yesterday to look at what they had on hold for me:

The doggone thing is that with all of the covid restrictions in place the earliest I can apply for a permit is January (don't get me started on bureaucracy!).

Anyway, what's a fella to do?

Went there today and they did it to me again! This time it was a 4" 686-4, polished up by the consignor but with a sweet double action (stock springs, I checked) and almost everything checked out fine--there was a small ding on the rear sight blade corner; only dropped once, lol.

The icing on the cake? 2016 vintage Spegel round to square butt conversion grips, dark Macassar Ebony. I was so happy to pick this up I neglected to take a pic. I'll go back tomorrow--they'll probably have something else waiting for me.

I'm glad I still have a regular paycheck...

I almost forgot--this is what I went to pick up today:

Sorry--of the three I don't have a picture of the Smith! LOL.

Like I said, I'm glad I have a regular paycheck.

Biku--it's a 9mm, 1976 vintage so no .40s around at that time.

Here's a couple of pics of the Smith 686-4

2016 Spegels, Macassar ebony with S&W medallions. The grip screw is wrong--it's a S&W, not the coarser thread that Craig uses but he'll send me a new one soon. BTW he wasn't affected by the Oregon wildfires.

The gun carries up nicely, the DA is smooth and pretty light (has the stock mainspring but I didn't check the strain screw) and the cylinder spins freely with no clicking sound while closed.

Worth every penny, and then some.

I really like the feel of the Spegels, I have a checkered set on my other 686--this one is in Bolivian Rosewood, which is another name for Pau Ferro.

Beautiful grain and a seemingly hard wood, though not as hard as ebony, of course.

BTW I hope no one takes offense at the title of my thread--I'm not being smug or trying to rub anyone's nose in it, especially during these hard times.

If it did rub you the wrong way, I apologize--that wasn't my intent.

OP: It's all good. The bad thing about my paychecks was that I had to work for them... The good thing about the 686s I have seen in person and on forum photos is that they seem to be in great condition, if only superficially. Then again, I just picked up a 2nd 627 PC snub, VERRY lightly used. Hard to pass up a mint condition revolver.
