Default 63 Case bulging

I have a 63 I just bought and it bulges the cases at the extractor, ( have to pound on the rod to get cases out) the extractor sits inward at each chamber. I dont know how it would wear like that wondering if someone reamed the chambers(chambers are pretty loose) and cocked whatever they were using to ream with. My question is can I buy a extractor and install it or does it need to be fitted?

My no-dash 63 came that way from the factory...a quick trip to the gunsmith and he fixed it. It was a factory defect. He just honed the extractor down

I wasn't clear with my explanation, the extractor cut out at the chamber is too big so when fired that part of the case is not supported by extractor and case bulges.

They need to be fitted. Could you post pics of the bulged cases, and of the extractor?

Could you post a pic looking straight at the recesses? That sort of looks like someone enlarge the recess in both the extractor and cylinder. If that's the case you will need a new cylinder.

I definitely think the recess and chambers have reemed as chambers are pretty loose. Anybody know what S&W would change fit a new cylinder?

I think it maybe had sticky chambers and didn’t know what they were doing. The rim recess is .325 dia, seems way to big, I don’t have another sw 22 to compare but hi standard 22 is much smaller. Way would someone cut that recess that big.

It looks like that bulge goes all the way around the base of the fired case. If that is the situation, it isn't just the extractor that was reamed larger or the bulge would just be on approximately a third of the circumference or whatever part the extractor is close to.
It may need a whole new cylinder and extractor fit.

No the big bulge is just at extractor but the chambers as a whole are loose. Do you guys think this might be a canidate for a 2 wmr, I would love to have a 63 mag. What smith might do this in Michigan?

Perhaps somebody like Hamilton Bowen could un-bubba your cylinder by turning it into a 22WRM. I suspect that what was done to your M63 was an attempt to improve sticky extraction, which is not uncommon in M63's. However, whoever did it probably made the situation worse. Probably the best thing to do with it would be to replace the cylinder and extractor and have the new parts fitted by a competent gunsmith. Once again, Hamilton Bowen comes to mind.

Now...a convertible M63 with both 22LR and 22WRM cylinders could be something very special. And loud. Just some thoughts. -S2
