Have a couple with 7 shot titanium cylinders in 38 spl (so they are legal here in Mexico).
I just love them!
They both have Arhends grips now.

An old pic of my 4 inch no dash 586 duty gun, along with a series 70 Colt GC, and a Ruger SB. Circa maybe 1981.

My one and only S&W Model 586.
I was gifted this gun.
I then sent it to Wilson Combat in Berryville, Arkansas.
I had it Mag-na-ported.
Had the forcing cone angle changed to 11 degrees.
Had the trigger polished.
And, a complete action tune-up.
It is sweet.
enjoy,

I have a couple 586 no-dashs. The one on the left is pretty much a safe queen. It is a very early one with serial number AAA62XX. I have the original stocks but I found the ones on it now on eBay a while back....since I liked the look I put them on it. To my knowledge this one has had only 12 rounds shot through it. The one on the right is an early no-dash also, with a serial number of ACU27XX. I have the original stocks for it also, but because this one gets shot and carried hunting & camping a lot I put the Pachmayr stocks on it.

Yeah, I wouldn’t mind swapping my barrel out for a 2 1/2 inch 586 barrel.

Yours is much like mine, with a softer finish, unless the lighting is playing tricks.

Mine shines pretty good. I messed with the lighting/positioning to avoid glare. I'm not positive are the -3s matte? Simular to a model 28?
Nice revolver by the way, the round butt 586/686 4" is the best balanced .357 revolver I have shot.

My only no dash came to me on a trade. It is a 4" from 1983. I do not shoot it often. It has worn different stock sets. I have it's original target stocks. Bob

My only 586 is the new model -8 with all the stuff S&W purists don't like.
Shown with Eagle Heritage stocks.

It's a Boker, 3.25" drop-point, 440C steel with polished bone handles. Cabela's had Boker make them back in the early 90's.......has the Boker Tree Brand logo with "Cabela's" in small print etched on the left side of the blade.
It's a great knife and I used it a lot while hunting for several years. Probably would still be using it but I got a couple of Bob Dozier knives that I use now for field dressing, skinning and processing.

I’ll take a 586 over a 686 any day, and I have a 686.
Wonder if Smith has any NOS 2.5 inch barrels?

I recently purchased a 586-6 with some of that government stimulus money. I suspect that 50 years from now it is going to be a very special shooter for
some young tyke that say's
" grandma said that it was one of grandpa's favorite shooters".

My 586 when I first obtained it:
I kept it like that for a long time. Made a record breaking shot with it once that my friends still talk about. But a few months ago I decided to "upgrade" it to more of a Smith & Wesson appearance.
It got a little messed up during my 2018 fire but it's still wonderful.

Here’s my no dash 586 and my 586 L-comp. That 586 L-comp might be my favorite revolver to shoot.

My 586 above with its shooting grips on: VZ conversions. This type has internal pins to custom fit the grips to your frame. They are great.

I see a lot of "no dash" 586's, and most all have the S&W emblem stamped on the left side of the frame, below the thumb latch.
My no dash, and several others I have seen, have the S&W stamp on the right side, on the side plate.
When did S&W make the change to the left side stamping? My gun was the first L Frame my gun shop had seen, and was supposedly in the first production run.

My no-dash has the logo on the side plate. I believe it to be from 1981.

Are the current production 586s one or two-piece barrels?
