Default I picked up a new, to me, model 547 9mm revolver today.

I have heard of the S&W model 547 9mm revolver, but have never seen one before today. I stopped by the GLS that refers people to me for tactical training and they had one that had just come in. It is the 3 round butt, with the original serial numbered box, and in 99+ % condition. For some reason I have always wanted a 9mm revolver and this seemed perfect. Any opinions are welcome. I will try to post a few pictures tomorrow.

Congrats on your purchase. I look forward to seeing the photos.

I picked mine up some years back. It's a shooter, not 99%.

Neat, neat shooter.

Enjoy.

Seems kind of diminutive for a fella name Tackelbarry

Just kidding....I hear that they are great shooters. I'm kind of sad that I sold mine without ever having taken it to the range.

Does yours have a pinned barrel? Looks like it might. One of my 4" does but I haven't seen a 3" with one.

This is a little out of the norm as my daily concealed carry gun is the Glock model 20, 10mm. I was nicknamed Tackelbarry after qualifying with a .44 magnum for backup and off duty. I shot a 99.6 with a S&W 2 1/2” “bear tracks” that I installed a tritium front sight on. Good times!

Nice find! These went from just expensive to really expensive over the past year or so, especially the earlier pinned barrel models. Looking forward to the photos.

Enjoy your new revolver and if you take it to a range be prepared to answer a few questions!

I have a at least 90% 3" no box or tools. Its a very good shooter. Seems to me that the kick is a lot less than with a bottom feeder 9MM, but that is a subjective opinion.

I have more than enough carry guns so this one is for me a range only gun. It took me a bunch of years to find one in my northern NY area but the wait was well worth it.

Thumbs up

The 547s are neat little revolvers. I had two 3" guns years ago. The first, purchased when they were in production, had a pinned barrel. The second, purchased years later, did not. That unique extractor worked very well, even with high pressure 9MM ammunition, no sticky extraction, etc.

I heard the French State Police had a bunch of these back in the late 60's early seventies. It was my understanding that S&W actually made these guns per the French request. I might be wrong? But a pretty cool gun. Wish I had one.

There is only one on Gunbroker right now. It is a 4, which is less desirable and usually sells for less than the 3, even though there were less of them made. It appears to be in 75-80% without the box and the starting bid is $1900.00. The earlier pinned barrel version was built in 1981-82 ish . There were approximately 10,000 of both versions built and they stopped producing them in 1985 ish. If any of this in inaccurate, hopefully one of the experts will correct it for us. Hope this helps.

The HKS speed loaders are very rare. Sometimes you can find them in local gun shops that don’t know what they are. They show up on gunbroker and eBay sometimes. I have seen them go for $150
