SMITH & WESSON REVOLVER 637-2
I'm a shooter, not a collector. But, I do browse Armslist every day just for grins. First look I had no idea what this gun was about and decided to ask here. THEN, the brain started working and I remembered that there was a show on cable many years ago called Gunsmoke. It was about a guys shop (and his hot wife and daughter). Anybody remember it. Then the brain worked some more and I remembered the owner was Rich Wyatt. I have a picture of he and I together in the shop. Anything special about this? Maybe I should have it for those memories? They are asking $480. Will attach some pictures.

Pics and print are kind of small. In the first pic the engraving is Wyatt Deep Cover. Also, is the 1.87 inch barrel a shortened barrel, or is that just the way a pawn shop measured the 2 inch barrel?? Thanks for any info.

Wow. He has about 3 years done and 3 to go. So is the gun worth more ala John Dillinger, or just another shooter? Just kidding? I know nothing about that model, but will research it. With regard to his law breaking: I only bought a t-shirt from him. I hope the feds don't come to repossess it?? Found the other pics. I had already moved from Colo, but was there visiting a friend in the hospital.

S&W J-frame 2" barrels measure 1⅞" (1.875).

As I recall, there was some trigger work done on them, as well as a bobbed hammer spur. There are probably still videos on YouTube about them.

American Guns (TV Series 2011– ) - IMDb
FYI,
The show was called "American Guns". "Gunsmoke Guns" was the shop name, but not the tv show name (9690 W. 44th Ave., Wheat Ridge, CO) which has apparently gone out of business).

Looked closer at one of the pics and the gun is stamped or engraved Performance Center. Is that something that is done if the gun is sent in for special service by the owner, or does it go directly from the factory to the Performance Center. Could they have bobbed the hammer? I will be in that area of town Monday, so may go take a look.

Right up my alley! I own 2 of these chickenpluckers and wish I owned more. When these came out, they were almost universally panned by the membership who either found the logos garish, or because of the guns' connection to the Wyatt TV show and his later imprisonment. Almost forgot, the factory-bobbed hammer and DAO action.
These are Performance Center guns and were made the way PC guns are supposed to be. Smooth as silk. The slickest carry pieces around, IMHO. Easy to shake 5 rounds into 5 pie plates at speed at 5-7 yards, their designed purpose.
Negatives? TANSTAAFL. The grips. Am just not a fan of the OEM clip-grip knockoffs. Have found the 'arm' designed to hang over the belt too short for secure carry (and I have tried on mailbox trips) and the slick texture makes control difficult. Of course, grips are easy to change out and I have done so. Some folks have grip boxes; I have a grip closet.
Do your due diligence re checking out a used revolver before making an offer. $480 used? See if they'll come down to $425 or even $400 and have cash in your hand. Too many optimists out there.
LASTLY, the logos. Just don't look at them or fret over them. Don't try to remove them and ruin the gun. (My LadySmith .357 is still a brutal short revolver despite the logo) If you buy it, shoot it and carry it. You'll see what I mean. Let us know what you decide, please. Be safe.

TANSTAAFL
I always like seeing folks quote Heinlein (actually, in this case, Jerry Pournelle's grandfather).

Actually, I quoted the bellman at the Holiday Inn LaGuardia in 1980. Never read Heinlein. And who is Jerry Pournelle, please?

Jerry Pournelle was one of the more famous science fiction authors. He and Larry Niven (another of the most famous authors) were visiting Robert and Ginny one afternoon and Jerry used the TANSTAAFL acronym. Per a conversation I had with Ginny (Robert's widow), Robert asked where it came from, and Jerry explained that his grandfather was the original source. Robert asked if he could use it, Jerry said yes, and the rest is history - the acronym entered the language. As did a number of Robert's other coined words (grok, waldo, waterbed, etc.).
