Default Who makes the 610 Moon Clips?

Who makes the Moon Clips that S&W ships with the new 610? They look a little more substantial than some I’ve seen (TK, Ranch) S&W doesn’t have them on their website.

Also, any recommendations on the best Moon Clip tools would be appreciated. They weren’t real hard to load, but I only loaded three clips.

I just put a NIB 4” 610 on layaway so I can’t go look in the box...but, I did find moon clips listed for the 610 on the S&W website under the “Magazines and Parts” section, although they look different than I recall the ones included in my box looked.

Be cautious of some S&W clips, three weeks ago I purchased a 4” and the damn clips are a bit too small. You need to force the rounds to seat all the way in the cylinder. I called S&W and they are sending me one to try then they will send the other two if the new one works correctly. They will not do any thing about the other six I purchased from the dealer.......

Ranch has supplied many hundreds of thousands of full moon clips to Smih & Wesson over the past 25 years.

Other manufacturers have also supplied full moon clips

I doubt that there is any way to tell which of the OEM suppliers made the 3 moon clips that came with any particular revolver

Ranch products is what I have been purchasing for my Smith & Wesson revolvers since the 90s

Don’t know about the 610, but the clips that came with my M22-4 45acp were Wilson Combat. I had to polish burrs off of them to get them to work. I switched to RIMZ and have been happy since.

I'd go with the RIMZ polymer moon clips for that application.

page_7

With any moon clip / cartridge combo, the longer the cartridge the more rigid it needs to be held in the clip to facilitate loading. The beauty of the RIMZ clips is that the openings in the clip are rebated (think rebated S&W cylinder and you'll get the idea) so they hot only hold the cartridge by the extractor groove, but they also surround the head of the cartridge, making for a very rigid assembly. Add this to the fact that no special tools are needed to load and unload the clips and you have a winner.

I have been using their 929 poly clips for ICORE and USPSA and they are stellar. Still use metal (Ranch) for .45 ACP and .40 S&W, but for your 610, I'd go poly.

JMHO.

Adios,

Pizza Bob

Are you comparing them to other 10mm moon clips or to rimmed cartridge moon-clips? Because clips for a rimmless autoloader cartridge are going to be thicker than for a rimmed cartridge.

While auto cartridges have a standard dimension for the groove, rimmed cartridges do not. Some are made without a groove at all. I believe TK is the only vendor that offers different clip ID's to fit different manufacturer's brass. While this doesn't apply to 10mm because it's all standard, it does make a difference in how stiffly the clip holds the cartridges.

Stiff is good, but the cartridges should still be loose enough to have some float so they center and drop into the chambers. If they were totally rigid, they could bind unless perfectly aligned. You can use their chart to pick the stiffness you want. I find "3" on the chart works well for long 357's. TK Custom FAQ's | How to Use Moon Clips for Revolvers - TK Custom
