Deciding between this 686-6 and a 586-1, thought I would reach out for your opinions on this 686? It seems to be in pretty good shape.

-Help on manufacture date - Serial CFM0513

-price seems fair, but I do wonder if the underneath of the top strap is a problem or just not cleaned well. See Pic.

In my area that revolver would not last long before someone would buy it. The staining is merely from shooting. It would not be a big deal to clean it up.

If the money were the same, I'd jump on the 586-1, especially if the condition were equal. JMHO ... but it's hard to beat a 586. Beautiful blue. Just wonderful. Sincerely. bruce.

Possible 1st Revolver Pawn Purchase

If it's something I'm planning to shoot regularly, then the stainless 686. If the 586 was in higher condition and I was intending to take more of a collector approach, I'd got that route. Based upon what we have seen, 686 with a thorough clean up. Then shoot it as much as you want. Stainless always cleans up easier.

2004 Mfr. year. I’d definitely go with the pre-lock 586. That top strap might clean up, but that gun has seen its share of light magnum loads. See if there’s enough of an indentation to snag a fingernail in the line parallel to the forcing cone. If so, that’s flame cutting. Not a deal breaker, but good to know if it’s there.

I have three 686-6. A 3 inch and 4 inch plus and a 6 inch six shot. Quite fond of all of them. They are like a Timex watch. They take a licking and keep on ticking! Clean them up and they look good as new. Certainly nothing wrong with a 586 either. Especially if you like a blued gun. Can’t go wrong! Good luck!
