New 617-6
Found this today and decided it was time to get one. Replaced the rubber grips with Hogue extreme G10 grips, added the medallions. This should be a great shooter. What do you think of the 617s?

I have a similar gun. I really like the 617-6- mine has a superb trigger. It’s one of my favorites.

Great grab. Let us know how it does at the range. No flinch factor with that one!!

I love mine, so fun to shoot and buying ammo won’t break the Bank.

Several years ago I had a 617 with MIM trigger and hammer but no lock. Foolishly traded it away. I lost count after 10,000 rounds of .22 of all sorts of different brands of ammo. No problems at all with it.

I have wanted a 617 for quite some time, but wanted to handle one before I bought it. Found it at the Kirtland Air Force base BX. BX pricing and no tax.

I have the 6” version and love it. A bit on the heavy side but a nice hunting and casual target revolver. Mine has a very nice trigger and has yet to misfire with any ammo. I’ll add a fiber optic front sight and be done with it.

The 617 would become that dreamed of ‘extension of my hand’ pistol if I were a younger man. The one you pull, point and shoot; but alas, don’t have the time left or dexterity to live the dream

I bought the 6", 10 shot version (now sorta wish I had bought the 6 shot) but I had mine out today at the range. Very accurate and is quite similar to the 686. With the price of ammo right now, I'm pretty much just shooting .22 and some 9mm. The 617 makes shooting .22 very fun. I was hitting a 3" hanging plate regularly from 25'.

I shot this gun on Sunday and it did quite well. No surprise of course. My only complaint is the black front sight doesn't provide enough contrast to see it well on a dark target. I'll probably add some sight paint to fix that issue.

I absolutely love my 4" 617-6. I've had it nearly a year now and it's probably the ONE gun I would keep if I could only own one. It's fun and accurate, cheap to feed.

My favorite S&W and my only one gun if you can just have one gun too. This one has more rounds through it than I can count. My frog gun, competition, and all around fun gun.

Like mine a lot. Had ejection issues when new but they cleared up after several cleanings. Now it's great!

It’s tied for my favorite revolver. My only wish would be to reduce the weight just a bit, but only because of my kids. It’s extremely accurate, and looks good too.

[QUOTE=Shark Bait;140955495]Found this today and decided it was time to get one. Replaced the rubber grips with Hogue extreme G10 grips, added the medallions. This should be a great shooter. What do you think of the 617s?
Congratulations!
I think they are wonderful! I have one of the early 617’s with a 6” bbl and wish it a 4”.... It is very nose heavy but I still enjoy it a lot! I just prefer 4” revolvers and do have a model 18 but will maybe get a 4” 617 one day

The 617-6 is a great gun. I have one with the 4" barrel, and even I can shoot it well. It is my only .22 revolver, and the reason my Ruger Single Ten went to a new owner. I consider the 617-6 to be an "almost twin" to my 627 Pro, and love them both.

I bought my 617, 6", new in 2016. It is one of my favorite handguns to shoot. I changed the rubber grips to some Ahrend's Retro Combat in Goncalo Alves.
I did have problems right out of the box with light strikes. After a trip back to S&W, all has been well since.
