I'm sure it's written somewhere but for these revolvers - do you have to use moon clips? I now with some revolvers you can skip the clips but harder to eject, etc.. Just curious.

In about 80%+ of these revolvers firing rimless ammunition, a non-clipped cartridge can rest against the cylinder throat and fire. This is not by design, it is just happenstance.

I think that the current wood grips shipped with the 2" Model 327 are too big, but they do make shooting it easier.

On my 929, which is like the 986 , that needs the moonclips to reliably fire, I did get a 50% success rate(shooting without moonclips) . You can see from the pic, the small hits on the other primers. Enough for me to not consider doing that again. And try and pick out the shells with my nails. (Not long enough)

You can shoot 38 short colts on both. They are a rimmed cartridge so they sit on the cylinder and dont sink in, to not fire.

I've shot 38 shorts in my 327,627, 986 and 929's. They'll fire in all. My favourite for shorts is the R8.

I knew a guy years ago who had an 8 shot 627 and shot .38 shorts in USPSA. But he reloaded using 9mm data. The cases are comparable in size. FWIW
