Default 500 performance center locked new in box

Picked up brand new 500 (170231) today. Cylinder release is stuck, cylinder will not turn. Trigger lock is unlocked. Never been fired, as I cannot even open it. Hammer is supposed to be chrome, but looks painted and looks like it has been dry fired many times. What do I do?

Picked it up from your FFL, or at a store? I would not have accepted one like that.

Send it to the factory. They will fix and most likely cost you nothing.

Welcome and sorry for your troubles.

The hammer and trigger on these are case-hardened, so the former appearing "painted" is probably normal.

With older standard S & W revolvers the usual cause of this problem is a loose extractor rod tying up the action, but the 500 and 460 don't use the rod as a locking point. If the thumb piece (cylinder release) is fully forward and the gun doesn't unlock, I agree with sending it back to the factory to be sorted out.
