Default 629 grips

Hi All,

Does anyone have a recommendation for a new target grip that's
close to the old S&W square target? The Hogue rubbers aren't
getting it for me, nor are the Altamont repro "cokes". Seems like
the modern grips are much too thin to absorb the recoil.

There's a seller on Ebay, chris872 that makes some really nice square butt n frame targets out of black walnut. I think he charges around $60. I just checked his Ebay store and doesn't show any right now but you might contact him and see if he has any in the works. They feel really good in the hand.

if you like a reproduction set of Factory Targets , there is a thai gripmaker (worldwidegrips) who sells nice grips. They are close to originals, but with a free interpretation (speed loader cutout plus diamond, an impossible historical combo ). To me, very very nice, 65$ shipped.....

Default 629 grips - found

Thanks to all for the suggestions I went back to
Altamont since they are the factory supplier.
Culinas are beautiful but too much for me.

Doug in sales at Altamont came up with a beautiful
set of round to square conversions in rosewood
with the medallions at a great price. The wood
and finish is just beautiful! No problems at all
with the fitting.

While they are a little thin compared to the old S&W
Target grips, they certainly dress up the 629 over
the factory Hogue grips. Think the'll work out fine.

Just pickup a pair of N frame target stocks of you liking. Cut out a small wedge filler the width of the grip frame to fill in the lower part of the backstrap, glue to the inside of one grip, install both grips, sand the filler piece flush to the grips, and touch up with Birchwood Caseys Tru Oil.

This shows an L shaped filler piece because the grips were also shortened. But you just need a smaller wedge shaped filler piece for the backstrap::
