Default Finally got myself a Model 19 Snub!

A few weeks back, I stopped by my favorite shop. I swore that the CS40 would be the last purchase for 2020 and until after the wedding, but I couldn’t pass this up when they brought it out.

I’ve wanted one since I was a kid; this checks off one on the true bucket/holy grail list.

2.5” 19-6. No box or anything, but it is in great shape. Story is that some guy inherited a couple of guns, and consigned some or all of them.

Brought it home today and had to share:

Congratulations
That is a sweet find

The 2 1/2" Model 19/66 just has a nice balance to it's lines

I admit to be more taken with a fully blued pistol than with a brushed piece of stainless

I know stainless is more corrosion resistant, stainless can have it's blemishes buffed away, stainless is less maintenance

But Blue steel in the proper proportions is just a thing of beauty.

You can always get another wedding. 2 1/2 19's are harder to come by. Good decision!

Very nice pistol. I've got the 66 2 1/2" (and the 4" and the 6"), and the 19 is on the bucket list . . .

Congratulations! Looks like quite a nice 1. Never found 1 at the right price/ condition. Did find it's stainless cousin:66-2. Really like it. Bob

Very nice score. Believe the going price for a new one was $180 back in the late 70s.

Took me years to find one in that condition in a LGS back around the turn of the Century to replace one I'd sold to a friend a decade before.......after buying a brace of 3" 66s.

Folks in the know tend to keep them ...................

Thanks all!

I can’t wait to put some rounds thru it

I didn’t pull the 4” 66-3 and the 6” 19-3 out, but I did snap a couple more with some others that I was fiddling around with...

Ps, paid 800 for it, but considering the times and being in CA...not bad I think?

Now I’ll have to eventually find A 3” :0

I also prefer a blued steel gun and in most cases search for them when looking for a particular model/size. However, I already had a very nice M19-3 with a 4" barrel, and was looking for a snubbie like the OP found. I came across an unfired (at least before I got hold of it) M66-1 RB 2-1/2" with box, tools and paperwork. Can't pass that up, and a stainless gun is a nice counterpoint to blued ones in a collection. Sort of an "Ivory" to the OP's "Ebony", if Stevie Wonder was collecting.

Love it! I wish mine had the box and everything else. If I ever come across a stainless 2.5” I’m going to get it and tell the future wife I can’t really check it off the list unless I have both...

(In her defense she claimed the 4” 66 as “hers” and also said to get the snub...I got me a keeper )

I think the Model 19 and 66 snubbies are two of the most attractive revolvers extant. I've fitted mine with Ahrends stocks for better recoil control, but I've kept the originals and the box and papers on each.

One of the 'grail guns' of the late 60s/early 70s: this, the Model 60 and the Model 29. If you came up with one of these, folks would whistle and ask "How?". A great candidate for a Tyler T-Grip as the RB gun would dive into the hand when firing magnum ammo. Still a nice snag!

IMO, considering the times and being in CA, for THAT gun, it's a great price.

My only 19 snub which is. a 19-7 now wearing Culina cocobolo stocks. I enjoy owning this piece of equipment.

I agree with PALADIN85020 that the model 19/66 in 2.5 inch bbl is one of the most attractive revolvers ever made. I had 2 opportunities to own a model 66 in that barrel length at a good price and unfortunately walked away in each case. I regret that very much.

SWEET !!!
They are surprisingly good shooters ...
You would think the 2 1/2" bbl. would be a handicap but it's not and they ride so well in a belt holster .
Take the girl out ... I bet she loves to dance !

At one time I had both a 19 & 66 in snubs . My sister didn't have one so I offered her one , her choice . I just laid both on the table and said " pick one " . She chose the 66 . I was actually glad as I really wanted the 19-5 . I really enjoy shooting my 19 with 357 hand loads . Regards Paul

The only thing better than a 2 1/2" 19/66 is a 3" 66.................

Never understood why S&W didn't make more of them.....the 3" 66 are a footnote in S&W history with between five and six thousand built..... IIRC there are only about five or six hundred 3" 19s from the mid-70s.

What a great thread.
I was going to "like" nearly every post, then decided to just say thanks to all of the participants.
There's sure some pretty firearms here and some good stories.
Thanks

Love the 19s. I’d pay you $800 for it right now.
