Nickel 442
A little help please. I came across this 1995 made Smith 442 with nickel finish. Unfired and new in the box. In that timeframe, did they shoot the guns as they do today? The pic shows everything I got, plus Smith thick paper, and was wondering if there is anything missing? Want all original, but not sure if this fits that order. Thanks for info in advance.

Smith and Wesson has always made the assertion that they test fire every gun manufactured before it is shipped. There should be evidence of this in the form of powder smudges around the chambers....or at least some of the chambers, on the front of the cylinder.
Perhaps the only thing I see that is missing is the small bag of "tools" that was shipped with the gun, which included a cleaning rod, mop, and brush.
Looks like you have a great example of this "time period" in your 442. Hope you enjoy it.

I had one just like yours. Purchased around the same time frame too. Didn't shoot it much but loved it. Carried it in a dual Galco shoulder rig along with my 642. "Ten Shots Quick"

I always preferred the Satin Nickel 442 to the two tone kind of look from the 642s stainless and alloy configuration
I still have mine, I think it it's box. However I do not carry or shoot it since picking up the 340s

That satin nickel 442 with UM boot grips should have been test fired on three if it’s cylinder chambers. I don’t know that those shipped with cleaning kits.

The 3rd picture shows that nickel 442 has been fired.

As I looked, it appeared the gun HAS been fired as many of you suggested. I was curious why the Sampled round was not included in the little brown bag they usually come in. Thanks you guys. Cannot decide what to do with it now that I have it. At my age it seems pointless NOT to carry it a bit

I found a Nickel 442 in a LGS consignment case.
It had no box or other papers, but looked like it had never been fired or perhaps fired a little.
I decided I didn't want any safe queens and have since fired it a few times. Perhaps I'll make it a carry gun at some point.

Wow! Now you see why LEOs in the NYC area were falling over themselves to buy a 442 in '95 or thereabouts, as per one of my recent posts. Odd, isn't it, that a plain vanilla gun can evoke a strong emotion in me, given that I own more than one ( ) 442 and its brethren. Guess that's why I'm a J-hound.
No way I could have passed up such a gem. Sadly, the used gun/consignment case in my LGS is populated by very worn handguns overpriced by their optimistic owners.

P.S. Almost strange to find it still wears the original UM boot grips. Some people will say/do almost anything to obtain them, NOT short of 'appropriating' them.
