Default Unfluted 29 Choices

I’ve always loved unfluted, full lug model 29s. My first was a 29-5 in 8-3/8. My best friend has that one now. It was always a little long for me, but was such a good shooter. Been looking for a while and and actually found a two local. One LGS has a really nice looking 29-4 or 5 in 5” with Hogues and the other is a 29-4 and has a 3” with Pachmeyers. I don’t see unfluted full lug 29s often, but they are pretty high. The 5” is $1350 and the 3” is $1500. No boxes, but look to have minimal wear. I always thought the 5 would be the perfect size, but the 3” is just beautiful. I’d love some additional info on the 3” model as this is the only 29 unfluted full lug 3” I’ve seen up close. Good shooters? Worth the price? How are they with full power loads? Am I better off with the 5”?

I have a 5" 29-3 with unfluted barrel...It was originally one of 25 made for Ron Shirk Shooting Supply in 1988...In 1997 its owner sent it back to Smith to have the 6" barrel removed and a 5" full lug barrel fitted, black target sights installed and Goncalo Alves combat stocks...I guess that makes it one of one since I also have one of Roy Jinks' letters verifying both times it was at the factory...It still has never been fired since manufacture and refitting...I'd give $1500 for that 3" if it's a round butt and blued......Ben

Default 5" if 29-4

If the 5" is a 29-4 I'd grab it as there were only 500 produced.

Or get both as they don't come up for sale that often.
