Default M500 Scope mount.

Hello,

I just bought my 2nd 500, 170231 10.5” PC, and was wondering if you all could help me with a scope mount. The rail machined into the top of the barrel looks like it is to far away. I plan on mounting a Leupold VX3 which I believe has a 15” eye relief. Am I wrong about it being to far from the rear of the frame? If it’s ok, can someone recommend a set of rings?

This going to be dependent on your arm length.
Easy way to check is mount the scope and adjust as required.

I use mostly Weigand mid-hieght rings, depending on where the scope sets I use as many as 4, this prevents scope creep.

I have the Jack Weigand mount and 4 rings on my 460 XVR - not a PC. I do not have a scope on my 500. These have held up very well. I would not go less than 4 rings on a X-frame. I have the same Leupold scope.

Weigand's site says the mount I have will not work for the PC.
And, the rings I used, Magnum medium height, won't work either:
"* S&W Performance Center Revolvers with Integral Weaver Style Scope Mount machined into the barrel.
Medium height scope rings (our scope rings) are not high enough for that application.
You will need at least High Weaver Style Rings for that application.
We do not currently manufacture High Rings."

Sorry I can't help. Good luck and let us know what you end up with.

There is a caveat to using mid height rings , they must be forward of the rear sight or the rear sight removed.

If you plan to mount over the rear sight than a high mount is required.

Funny thing is the only two scoped 460 I have at home both are using Warne rings.

Took quick phone pic so you can get an idea.
