Two years ago I would have said "no" to $1000 for a 29-3, even if it was factory nickel plated. Today, that's a reasonable amount for one in excellent condition and especially if it comes with the correct box and papers.
I will say that the 29-3 is generally regarded as a low point for the various S&W 44 Magnum revolvers. They lack the pinned barrels and recessed chambers of the earlier Model 29's and the fit and finish often leave something to be desired. They also lack the durability enhancements of the later Model 29's. They have been regarded as shooters, but with the restrictions of earlier Model 29's. That being said, their value has increased, especially during the COVID-19/political/social unrest of 2020 and likely 2021.
