Default 3 inch K frame, which model most mfg?

Good morning all, like most S&W hobbyist I am looking for a 3 inch K frame. I would prefer stainless but price will decide the sale. My question to those in the know is which model was thought to be the most produced in 3 inch. Thanks in advance and stay safe.

I'm with John. I have seen more 3" model 65's than anything else. The 3" guns seem to be in demand and bring a premium over other barrel lengths.

Default Don't overlook the Model 36-1

I don't know how many exactly were made but the Model 36-1, fixed sights, 3" Heavy Barrel seems to still be around and since it is not 357, or even 38 +P stamped....still at "reasonable" prices.

If you have to have 357 Magnum (Op post just said K Frame) then yea...the Model 65 (fixed sights), or 66 (adjustable sights) are in Stainless and hold up well.

I wanted to thin the herd a little a couple years ago and had my 36-1 (1976), and my 65-3 (1986) up for sale locally at even money ($450) and 65 went fairly quickly, so I kept the others, and the 66-6 (2002) gets shot more, but pretty much with 38 Special as other guns are better shooters for me with 357 Magnum. The 66 also has the infamous Hillary Hole.

Good luck with your search, at todays inflated, panic ridden prices, there may not be much out there if you are searching on a limited budget, especially big on line sites with all their extra costs. Maybe decide what caliber, and Model number you are really wanting....then post a WTB add here on the Forum and see what comes.

I'd say the 65

Only about 5500 3" 66 built in the 80s -2s through -4s

Guessing <1000 3" 19s in the 60/70s most for export.

There are also 3" 13s which was the FBI last service revolver

3" Model 10s..... doubt anyone knows

Several runs of 3" Performance Center runs on the K-frame... I think all are .357

Just based on availability over the years I suspect more 3” 10s, and I believe they had the longest run of production with many going overseas. I do believe the model 65 production exceeded the model 64s total numbers. Contrary to popular belief, the 3” 13 is not all that common. I have seen almost as many 3” 66s as I have 3” 13. I have never seen a 3” 19 in person except for the current ported model.

Op here. I have a Mod. 60-10 and love it, just trying to finish my bucket list before time runs out. Even though I mentioned stainless a mod 10 with std 3" would be best for these old week wrist. Probably a few ounces less than a magnum framed heavy barrel model.
