Default .45 ACP revolvers dropped from line?

I have recently been to the S&W website. I do not see any .45 ACP revolvers listed. Has S&W dropped them from the line?

You're correct - no 45 acp revolvers in the current lineup. A member of the Colt forum called S&W and was told none in production at this time and no word of plans to bring any back.

So, did I just purchase one of the last 625-8's? Maybe its like winning the lottery. Less than 200 rounds through it. Should I put it up? bob

S&W is probably focusing on the M&P line of pistols as they are very popular right now and sell faster than they can make them.

Thanks for posting that. I thought about selling 625-8 a few times but it's not going anywhere now. This is sad news.

I just posted a list off the revolvers that S&W have discontinued in a new thread if that is of interest.

Go to their web page.
There is a SIGNIFICANT reduction is Perf. center models in several calibers.
The M&P's must be HIGH in demand to cancel[at least for now] so many models.
On the other hand it's also very likely they weren't running them or had no plans to run so we'll just slim down the web site!

Sure - a dash 8 with the IL will be a collector item in maybe 50 years... Seriously, it they were a big market item they would still be making them. Our little group doesn't move the needle on sales of new guns.

This is more than likely the correct answer. Everyone wants a cheap high capacity 9mm right now, and you know poly guns are dirt cheap to make with a giant mark up.

My 625-8 JM was not going anywhere even before hearing this. My favorite gun to shoot and for IDPA also. Also with Hogue Bantam grips it can be carried with a good holster and belt. Jim.

Local Pawn Shop has a new 625 JM model for $950.00 plus tax.
Too rich for me. Besides I couldn’t afford to shoot.

Mine is a 625-2 and I have no plans of getting rid of it. Just wish I could find a 625 in .45 Colt but it will probably be harder to find now. Here's my 625-2:

After VikingDude posted the discontinued models on this forum, I went to the website and saw there are no 45ACP revolvers. I bought a 625-8 many years back. At the time I was looking for a 625JM, but there were none around, but the -8 was available. So, for an extra $100, I bought it. It's been a wonderful pistol and I reload 45 AutoRim in mine. I didn't like the red, white and blue laminated grips, so I replaced them with these.

I also noticed that the 986 with the 5" barrel is not in production right now either. I'm glad I picked one of those up when they came out.

Just wait until Jerry Miculek decides he
needs some modifications on a .45
wheelgun. Then the "new" 625 will
appear---------at a premium price
to be sure.

Why? It's a matter of sales and demand
for a decision to curtail production. The
625 can always be brought back.

Are you a shooter of or in the market for
a brace of .45 revolvers?

What S&W may do is make small runs of different models to keep up with the market demand. It maybe cheaper than trying to keep all models in production all the time.

I bought mine not long ago and enjoy shooting it. I already had a 45 M&P and a 1911 in 45 acp so it was just a great addition to a caliber I already reload for. I would like to pick up another older one some time though.

What a shame, the 625-8 I’ve had for quite a few years, has been one of my favorite handguns to shoot.

45acp revolvers are my favorites. Too bad they've been dropped from the S&W line. They are fun shooters. Here are four of the five I own. The only one missing is a S&W 1917. Left to right is model 1950 (my favorite), 1955, 625-2 and a Colt 1917. The 625 just slipped in there a few years ago. It's rare for me to buy something of that vintage. I really like the older stuff. One of my grail guns is a Colt Shooting Master in 45acp. Very rare and very pricey when found.

They are going for quantity over quality. Pumping out AR's while they still can. Also, cheaper semi auto that are assembled by line workers not pistol-smith's.

Just shot my 625-8 a few days ago, it always puts a smile on my face. I don't have a lot of ammo for so I'm being convervative with it. Gave it a good cleaning today.

This announcement is a downer for me. My 625-8 JM Special has been one of my favorites for many years! It will continue to be. It is a sweet shooting son-of-a-gun! Mine will see nothing but home cast bullets and as a result will hold it's accuracy longer than I will. These are not only fun to shoot but very effective revolvers in several disciplines.

Sorry to not see them in the current line up but they can always come back. S&W had a “Model of the Month” going for a while. Might do it again.

I still have a few and looking for more. Still haven’t found a Model 1950 Target but just got a tip about a Model 325 that might come available.

Disappointing for sure. Really enjoy my 625JM. Wish I could find a TR M22 that isn’t over priced- highly doubtful now.

Guys the 625 will be back. Maybe 1-3 years from now but it will come back like the 610 came back for a time after it had left the line years ago.
The .45 is in a slump, but will come back in the likely return of magazine capacity regulations being forced down our throats.

It’s supply and demand, there focusing on the demand for pistols, soon I predict the second coming of revolvers it’s got to come full circle for us.

I like pistols there fun to shoot but watching that cylinder turn to the next round goes way back in history. To renew our faith in revolvers just watch the tales of the gun smith and wesson. Renew the history they came from. And where we are today.

Default .45 ACP revolvers dropped from line?

Just picked up 625-8, looks real good and probably tightest B/C gap among my revolvers. Can’t wait to take it for a spin. Purchased it from big online vendor, checked again in couple days and it was out of stock, so it might be the last one they’ve had.

They are all good. I hope S&W makes a lot of money during the Panic. I also hope they come back to their revolver roots when it is over. The good part is every day there are more guns loose in America..........

It's sad to think of the market being so strong for Tupperware that S&W sees no profit in making traditional firearms.

I have two 625s, a 5-inch and this one, with Roy Fishpaw grips...

I was a muppet and sold a 625-2 years ago. Kept playing with the idea of replacing it but like a lot of things, it didn't happen.

Was lucky enough to grab this 22-4 a few years ago.

Sounds like replacing that 625 isn't going to happen anytime soon.
