Default Model 610 questions

I stopped in to see if the pickings had improved at my LGS.
In the display case they had a 4” and a 6” 610. IIRC they were around $875 each. Both are new. Fair price? Which would you choose for a range gun?
I was moving stuff from our old house to our new location and found I have about 40 boxes of .40 S&W but no handgun in .40. In fact the only .40 I have is my Beretta CX-4 PCC. I figure the 610 would be good fit into this gap.
My buddy gave me most of this ammo so I would not feel right selling it off but the thought is tempting.

For a range/target/hunting revolver, 6 inch barrel. If you think you are going to carry it as a woods or personal protection piece, then 4 inch barrel. $875 for a brand new, in the box, S&W Model 610? These days, absolutely a fair price.

It could have been $895, but no more. I wouldn’t quibble over $20 considering its a small shop that has always been fair to me, and I am sure in these times of hard to come by inventory the could use the dough.

STANSDDS is right, it’s a very fair price. Dealer cost back in the spring was about $820ish for my local guy. The 40, in a revolver, feels a little more like 357mag than 38 like people think. Even in a 4” 610 it will be fun. I really like 10mm revolvers. I have a 3”GP100 in 10mm.

Thumbs up

I haven't kept up with prices, but just a comment on 4" or 6" barrel lengths. I had two, at different times, 5" 610s from that first run, around 1990 or so. On the big N-Frame with full lugged barrel, even the 5" was very muzzle heavy. Were I buying a new 610, I would definitely go with the 4".

BTW, I have a Ruger GP100 10MM. If not for that darn lock/hole, I'd have a new 610 instead...

You could probably swap 40 boxes of .40 S&W ammo for a new car these days!

If I didn’t already have a 610-1, I’d look at the 4” for < $900 - pre lock 610s often go for 50% more. I like the 6.5” for field use and the dash 1 has the interchangeable front sight and unfluted cylinder. Shooting 40/10mm out of a revolver is a real hoot.
