Just bought a 657
Hi all.
New member.
I was at a gun show this weekend and bought this 657 no dash with three inch barrel that the owner said is a Lew Horton.
I am trying to confirm this.
S/N is in the ANK1020-ANK1998 range which I think makes it an early model?
Any help is much appreciated.

No dash M657 was made from 1986-88, and the ANK SN's were 1986 so yeah, it's an early M657. What I can find in the catalog under Lew Horton Specials is that the SKU # for them is 148119, and there were 154 M657 no dash with 3" barrels, red ramp front and white outlined rear sights made between 1998 and 2000. No serial number range is given. That seems odd to me and contradictory to the no-dash models ending in 1988 when the dash 1 came out.
Maybe someone more versed in deciphering the catalog or with firsthand knowledge can be more specific. Whatever it turns out to be, it's a great-looking revolver. I have a 6" M57 no dash, it's fun to shoot, and I'll bet the 3" barrel is a real hoot with full power loads.

Welcome csurp34. Great forum entrance with your newly acquired 657 Snubbie. Congrats!!! These 3" 41 magnums are a lot of fun to shoot and very accurate for a larger caliber IMO.
Not sure about yours being a Lew Horton but glad you took time to post it.

Zero difference between a LH or regular production gun of the same kind, so either way you have a gem.

The 154 Lew Hortons were later and had a full under lug. It is my understanding that the mid-80 3” were not part of any Lew Horton order. I got that information from Lew Horton when I contacted them many years ago when I bought mine used. At that time I also found out S&W made more 3” than they did 4” 657.

Thanks everyone.
Interesting story, I was there to buy an EDC Glock 43X.
One of the first tables inside of the door was a private party with a half dozen revolvers.
When the line stopped I happened to look at this one.
It was beautiful and I have a thing for .41 Magnum revolvers but moved on to what I was there to buy.
After successfully buying what I needed I passed the table again on the way out and looked at it again.
I made him an offer, even swap for my new, never fired Redhawlk .357.
He declined so I left.
The show ended for the day at 5 so I went back at 3.
It was still there so I made him a cash offer of 1,200 against his ask of 1,400 and he accepted.
Looking like it was a decent buy especially given its condition.

TY.
I am reading that the value is the gun itself not the LH connection.
Does that sound right?

Nice!
I am fortunate to also have a never fired 57 no dash with wood box and accessories.
Cool stuff is hard to pass up.

Congratulations on your acquisition. The 3 inch 657 was a limited production with 5490 produced. It was not exclusive to Lew Horton Distributing Co.

The 41 Magnum has never been my cup of tea, but that's a very nice acquisition! Hopefully it will bring you years of enjoyment. If you aren't already doing it, now you have the perfect reason to get into handloading.

Totally get that.
Horses for courses.
A few years ago I purchased a mint Ruger Super Blackhawk Hunter, 7.5" barrel .41 Magnum. Great shooter so I decided to buy whatever interesting similar came along.
That lead to a mint Dan Wesson 8" barrel and then to an unfired S&W model 57 no dash 8 3/8 barrel with wood box and all accessories.
So when I saw this one in it's condition, I'm in.

Congratulations!
You did well.
G43Xs are a lot easier to find than a 657 3".
