629-3 with a lock?
Local guy has a 629 for sale, 3", says it's a -3. The photo in the ad shows a lock. I asked him what it said on the frame, and he replied it said 629-3. I haven't heard of a lock before -6.
The grips on it look like Altamont. While looking for an answer, I saw a 629 Deluxe, with the same grips, and overall looked the same, and with a lock. Is it possible S&W made that model on a -3 frame - a long shot guess - and p ut locks on it since that model was made after they went all lock? I would have thought it would be a contemporary frame in that case.
Thanks

Sounds like seller conflating dash revision and barrel length.

No dash -3 with a lock. Actually I’ve never even seen a -3 with a 3 inch barrel either.
Edit - Well besides the carry comp

You beat me with your edit:
For those who don't know what a Carry Comp is.

It could also be that the revolver he is showing in pictures is not what he actually has, but are photos he found online. If this is the case, my spidey senses would be tingling.

OK. He says he made a mistake, and it's a 629-5. But, as I'm writing this, and coffee just kicking in, I'm still thinking it shouldn't have a lock. Thanks, for the input, guys, I'm not an expert collector and needed some consulting.
Stansdds, you're,right. I'll be careful. Doing a lot,of this via email as I don't want even a 60 mile drive for nothing. I'll see how it turns out.
Thanks again.

Nope, the engineering change to the lock happened on the -6 frames onward. I would ask for good clear pictures prior to proceeding with that transaction.

If he is able, have him send a clear closeup photo of the model stamping. It will very likely be "629-6".

Yes, I'm asking for photos. It would be a FTF, anyway. However, I think what I have on my hands is a "wise-guy," but an amateur one. I do believe the photos in the post are of the actual revolver, as they show the lock, which is what raised the question to begin with. He's now "admitting" to a -5, which you all have confirmed is impossible. He still has it posted as a -3. My suspicion is he saw the pricing on a real -3 and thinks he can get that, and now figures he can stay in pre-lock territory and still sees $ in his mind.
I think it may be a "deluxe" from 2017, as the photos match in detail. It's not something I absolutely have to have, I have a 69 for a short 44. But, for the right trade...maybe. But, when the trust meter starts to fall, it can be good bye time.

I looked at that ad and it sure looks like a 629-6 to me.

Thanks. You saw the price and the -3, I assume. I figured it to be -6 or above, but I don't know everything and thought I could have been wrong.
But, what interests me at this point is why he now "made a mistake" and "it's a -5." If he looked at it, he had to know it's a -6. It's suspicious at this point.
